As you may be aware there is now a Senior American Football side training in Sheffield, looking to join a national league in 2009, The Team were going to be called Sheffield Steelhawks, but they have now been informed that they would not be allowed to use this name in the National League, So a vote was taken on the NEW name, and the current players and staff voted to call the new team after the very first team in Sheffield, they are now going under the name STEEL CITY GIANTS,

Training takes place on Sundays Millhouses Park 12.30 for 1pm start, everyone is welcome, the more the merrier, This sunday will be the last prior to the xmas break, so come down and enjoy yourselves,

Are there plans for a women's team?

sccman

At the moment I havent any plans in that direction, I dont know if there are adult sides I know that women are involved at Univeristy level, but I have not known it at senior level. Try asking the Governing Body in Gb which is Bafa. I think their website is Bafa.org. Just google it and you should get there.

AS previoulsy mentioned on here the League in their wisdom have now told us that 1, Steelhawks would not be accepted, and we cannot use Giants, also we are not allowed to use Steel City as this is non-area specific.

SO Sheffield Forum

Your ideas for a team name would be much appreciated,

not sure they'd let you use sheffield forge since theres a team called sheffield forgers that play at allsaints. They might let you play there if you ask them but im not sure if its 120 yards and its not really a decent pitch though. Usport probably would be intrested in getting associated with you.

We know that storm is used by the Cheerleading Team in Sheffield, so that is probably out as well,

Cheerleading and American Football sounds like something that might go together, how about when we get established the Storm, can do a 1/2 time routine ????

About the Superbowl as well it has been confirmed that Sheffield's senior American Football team will be holding a bash at the Ball in Crookes, entrance by way of ticket only, priced £2.

See Sheffield American football teams facebook page for ticket information.

Anybody else just seen the Tampa Bay Buccs cheerleaders in Town, wonder where they were heading??? I know they are doing the O2 arena for sky.

And dont forget to get to Superbowl Bash at the Ball Crookes this Sunday.

Also looks like the name maybe Preditors, but we still await official confirmation that we can use this name.

hey sccman what protective equipment is needed to be able to play. love the game an would to have a go. i didn't realise sheffield had a team. also is there a charge like subs an stuff?

sccman
13-02-2009, 14:27
Hi Osgood, Currently at Trianing Sundays at 1pm Don Valley Bowl you will only need normal training gear, It is grassed, so studded footwear would be beneficial, if Gear is need during training then this will be provided. As for subs there will be susb but the costs of these have not been set as yet by the Board.

Once the Club joins the National League, then kit will be provided by the club, but most players usually decide to but their own eventually especially helmets.

You can get a starter kit depending on position for around £250.

Hope to see you soon, the more the merrier.
