View Full Version : Converted Xvid-DVD but it wont play?
Basically thats it!
I've converted a Xvid file using VSO DivxToDVD. It plays fine in the laptop but my DVD recorder is having none of it, it just says 'Reading' and does nothing else.
I used Nero for burning the DVD.
The DVD player/recorder is only 6 months old, i'd have thought it would play it :?
Have i just wasted 2 hours converting this film?
Captain_Scarlet 01-06-2005, 20:04 Download G-Spot, this apps will tell you which codec the vid is made of (Xvid you say ?) and tell you if you have it or not :)
I've already got g-spot Captain Scarlet. I've also got the k-lite codec pack.
As i said, it's playing fine on the laptop but not on my DVD player/recorder
Looking through my DVD player's settings, i see 'PBC' set to ON and 'AV1 Decoder' set to Off.
Does anyone know what they are and could this be part of the problem?
[EDIT] Problem solved :) It was the AV1 Decoder that needed setting to 'On'
neeeeeeeeeek 01-06-2005, 20:39 Did it say reading for a while then fail or stop on reading? Did you try leaving it in for ages, going and making a cup of tea or something?? I have some DVDR films that my Panasonic DVD player struggles to play, it can take it a minute or so to get going...
Next question.................
I also have a kvcd file i need to put on a cd/r. I tried it 3 times using Nero last night and each time it got to 5% and said something about a power sync failure (i think)
Am i right in thinking that you can burn a kvcd file to cd/r?
I just looked in the properties and it says it's a CUE file (new one on me) :? I also checked it with g-spot and it says it isn't a valid file type? It does still work on my laptop though.

I'm new to all this MTB
re-encode using what program?
Thanks :)
PS....Any instructions i might need would be helpful too!
melthebell 01-06-2005, 21:23 i use tmpgenc..................but its a program your supposed to pay for..........any avi to mpg converters should do it...........i just think xvids a bit of a leftfield format....nero prefers mpg to burn really, it encodes avis to mpg itself but its not perfect........ive had multiplexing problems with it before (video / audio being out of sync)
troutbasher 01-06-2005, 22:46 i,ve tried no end of programes to convert films from different formats to dvd .i,ve started using win avi converter and it also converts xvid and mpeg formats.dont if you have to buy it though i got mine for nowt.try lookin for it though you never know you might get a trial version so you can at least have a go with it.
But how do i burn a kvcd file peeps?

NERO:
- If you wanna play it in your standalone dvd player, de-activate the standard compliance (nero).
- Choose to burn a vcd as normal. It may tell you its a non standard vcd, just tell it to ignore and continue. In nero express, however, it tries to re-encode the file so just use the ordinary nero interface.
ive used/purchased cucusofts avi to dvd and that works flawlessly.
for converting anything else to dvd i read the guides over at dvdr-help.com (http://www.dvdr-help.com)
melthebell 03-06-2005, 18:05 ive tried loads of rippers/encoders, the only ones i use now are tmpgenc, smart ripper and no1 dvd ripper
exact audio copy for mp3s
I'll be trying them all soon
Thanks guys!
