A puppy died today from shock and burns after a group of youths attached a firework to its tail. I just heard this on the radio (BBC), and haven't been able to find a link to the online story yet. But this made me feel sick.
What kind of world are we living in?
How on earth can we educate/punish people that do things like this?

OMFG THIS is what I am talking about when I say I want fireworks BANNED from public purchase.
How do we punish these youths.
Lock em up! Strap fireworks to them and set em off (make the firework a dud that just flashes and makes noise but not burns).
Just to start then lock em up, fine their parents and take away the family car, home etc.
Harsh punishment I say.
The only reason we treat the death of animals different from the death of humans is communication. That's all.
Imagine if we had a device that acts like a Dr doolittle where we could actually talk (like I talk to the person next to me) with our pets. And give animals the voice to say, such and such a person murdered that dog. The world would be different.
OK I'm using an extreme example and I may be babbling but it's true.
These people make me sick!

Definetly NOT. Make the punishment fit the crime - use the same fireworks they used.
That puppy suffered, they should too.
Unfortunately even though things like this shock and horrify people. Even if the people are caught the punishment usually is a very light slap on the hand compared to the severity of the crime. But just imagine it was a child they had done it to they would get life. In the eyes of the law animals are just dumb creatures. How many people are prosecuted by the rspca each year for cruelty and just receive a fine and/or a ban on keeping pets.

James Bulger? His killers didn't get life. Didn't the (then) Home Secretary Michael Howard get their sentences extended too?

Agreed, and the sooner the better. When I was little (which wasn't that long ago!) you had a Roman Candle and a Kathryn Wheel and they went fizz and buzz and then went out. Now they seem to be bombs, powerful enough to shake the foundations of the house and blow holes through peoples roofs.
Sickos. I am fed up of hearing stories like this. I can't begin to understand the mentality of some people. Ban fireworks other than for public displays. Use sickos like these as Guy Fawkes.

This kind of thing is'nt unique to todays generation i,m affraid.
This kind of obscenity took place in the 60s and 70s so i don't believe this behaviour is just caused by todays society.
I was told by someone today though that from next year you will need a licence to buy fireworks.
I have not seen any confirmation about this but to be fare i have not looked.
Sooner the better for me.
Still can't find the story on the BBC (even though they were first to report it) but I have found it here:
