View Full Version : Anyone up near Abbeydale Rd got a bit of spare time this week?

This really isn't a plug, so I apologise that it sounds like one!

I've just got my shop and as of Tuesday (possibly tomorrow, but probably not) the spotties will be coming to the shop with me but they're not yet used to it.

I'm looking for anyone who wouldn't mind popping in to help me get the dogs (particularly Takara) used to people coming in. They're going to be secured in the back, so unless you particularly want to meet them close up, you won't even have to be near them!

I'd really appreciate it :D

Plug away Lotti! Why not! I'll try and get down at some point if i can find time, as long as your door is wide enough to take a double pram :hihi:

I'll try to pop in to see you lottie and the spotties. Can you let me know as to where your shop actually is? I take it all the stuff is moved in now - you must be knackered! See you soon

Thanks guys! what a great response.

Lisa, unfortunately, it's an old shop and the landlord didn't change the shop front so actually, it's not a big door :S (Lovely quirky old shop but not very wide).

Would be nice to see you though and there is somewhere for you to lock the pram up outside if the littl'uns can get out and walk... that's the best solution I can think of!

Haddockman - would be good to see you :D

Amyrach, it's a pet shop :)

Teeny, would be good to meet you! Bring a poster with you for the window and some leaflets to give out.

Helen (as above, bring poster/leaflets) and yes, most of the stuff is moved in but the shelves are a tad bare... it's going to be a while before it's fully stocked because I only had a small budget to start on but I'm placing an order next week so if there's anything you want, let me know! At the moment it's a case of getting in at least what I know people want to buy to get it off the ground.

The shop is at the London Road end, number 98 Abbeydale Rd (googlemaps will find 90-98 because it used to be all one) near moonlight blinds/curtains shop :D

And yep! Very knackered, and all the work didn't help me rest my leg so infection has spread! Lovely!

Lotti
30-11-2008, 20:03
Can do!

I'm happy to stock what people want and even if it's something I wouldn't usually stock lots of, I'll keep a regular amount in if someone wants it :)
Although, tripe is something I would probably look at stocking anyway... is it frozen tripe you mean? I've only got a likkle freezer but can get it in!

really? I'm surprised small pet shops don't have them in! Wonder if it's due to not a lot of demand? I know I used them with Takara but we were given a load of them and then mum picked me some up from P@H so never really had to look or them... she only needed them for a short period of time!

i told 2 freinds and they are both using them now hehe.
i take my dog out and he comes back in and uses it grrrrrrrrrr i have mooved it to the back door but with it being freezing i cant leave the door open a little or stand there and watch him its to bloody cold

kimba - it can be quite confusing for pups if you don't go out with them, it's not uncommon for them to come back in and do it if you don't go out with them.

I know it's cold, but if you go out with him for 3 minutes(ish) at a time, (even if it means taking him out in quick succession if he doesn't do anything in those 3 minutes) then you're able to reinforce toiletting outside and you also teach him to go while you're there.

Pups can be confused if they go out, do the business, come in and get rewarded and some will begin to go out, come in and toilet instead of doing it whilst outside.

Also, when they do finally realise to toilet outside, they don't learn to toilet outside while you're there which is, I believe, why many dogs won't toilet whilst near their owners - they get punished or ignored (please don't punish!) when they toilet in the house which happens to be near their owners - and then rewarded when they go outside, away from their owner to toilet so think that they have to toilet away from their owners.

I'd really recommend going out with him, they learn a lot quicker and it can help to teach him while he's onlead so he will go onlead on a walk!

To be honest - there's a great deal of people who don't believe in using puppy pads or paper so not only those who don't know about them, but also those who disagree with the use of them.
I used them and still think they have their place but many dog trainers and experienced owners don't use them because it can make toilet training a lot slower.

I'll have to come and have a look as it'd be nice to meet the spotty ones [no Lotti I'm not including you in that]. Do your pair like bacon scented dog chews by any chance?

Lotti
01-12-2008, 00:27
 Wallbuilder, I highly doubt they would turn them down!

It'd be good to meet you and I'm sure the spotties would be delighted :D

Brude says would you mind stocking Deer Ears please? He hasn't been able to find them anywhere locally, and he's not sure he can wait until next year's Wag & Bone Show to get some more

failing that, would you be able to stock rawhide boomerangs? they're not made of pressed, wrapped shards like the bones are

I popped in to see Lottie and the spotties today after my dentist appointment. Takara was very good and I thought Eddie was a real sweetie. Good luck Lottie, I think you will do well.

Lotti
01-12-2008, 21:15
LOL Helen, that means - Eddy was a sod but it's not his fault  Was great to see you though :)

Plaintalker came to see us as well and the spotties totally showed me up! Horrid animals they can be!

I'll do my best to find some deer ears but can't promise anything Brude ;)

Lyndsay, it'd be lovely to see you :D The spotties definitely need practice!

Hey, lotti, don't worry, they were just "doing their doggy-job", in guarding you and the shop! hehe.

Things aren't familiar yet, there for them. I'm sure they'll be calmer as the days wear on, and they get more used to being there.

Lotti
01-12-2008, 21:51
Thanks PT - I know it's not their fault, they'll get used to it - but it did get very wearing by the time I took them home!

sorry where is this we would love to pop in

Lotti
02-12-2008, 18:57
Thanks all.

eeejay it's number 98 Abbeydale Rd - where the Richards Furniture used to be. If you look on google maps it comes up as 90-98 Abbeydale Rd because the 5 shops used to be one.

Just want to say a huge thank you to all the people who have popped in so far. I have to confess this morning I was thinking the spotties would never get used to it but a few of you have popped in today and there is an improvement! (Apologies to those who were there to experience the worst of it!)

We will most likely take a step back tomorrow but at the moment, because the shop is so new, it's quiet and they will get used to it... it'll just take a while!

So thank you again - I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the support I've had from guys on here. You're all great :D

I popped into the shop yesterday and Lotti has kindly agreed to try and find a certain hard to source dog food for a friend of mine.
The two spotties were barking a little and as I didn't want to encourage bad behaviour I ignored them and they didn't get any bacon scented dog chews.
Dallies do look gorgeous though.

MY friend has now got her greyhound dog food thanks to Lotti and I've got two nice new long leads at what I thought was very good price.
I've also mentioned the shop to a few of the local and not so local dog owners which hopefully will spread the word .

I got Trixie her new basket from Lotti's shop, again, at a very good price.

Trixie loves it, but still insists on strewing the cushion and her toys all over the kitchen floor from out of the basket. It's like an obstacle course, on the kitchen floor, with her balls, tuggies, raggers and all manner of hide chewies, everywhere.
