It was inevitable. They were as good as we were on the day, they raised their game, we dropped ours, and Histon deserved the win. Good luck to them. Although I will say if all you lot who think it's somehow wildly amusing to censor 'Leeds' watch their matches just so you can laugh when they lose, you really, really need to find something better to do with your time. Because you're obsessed. geocol 01-12-2008, 09:39 As the token Leeds fan I'd love to turn up and make excuses (and there are some valid excuses), but I can't really help laughing. It was inevitable. No you're not the only one, but are probably the only one with the guts to come on here today, however you try and ice somthing unpalatable.. It's not wiildly amusing. We just still remember your fellow fans' arrogance, and their indignity when United knocked you out the league cup about 7 years ago, about how a work colleague of mine stated "we shouldn't be losing to teams like Sheffield United"; and when Wednesday beat you 3-2 at Elland Road when you went down , I reproduce a quote from your fans' own website of how "Losing to teams like Sheffield Wednesday is unacceptable". That is two reasons why we take delight in your misfortune. I'm afraid I don't have twenty four hours spare to mention all the others. F. Sidebottom 01-12-2008, 09:51 Of course it is. You're a Wednesday fan. To you, everything I say to everything is a 'gay' response. Because you're obsessed. I'm not in the slightest obsessed with Leeds. I didn't even watch the game yesterday. As a local rival, Leeds will get stick from Sheffield fans when they lose. Especially to a bunch of part timers from some Emmerdale Farm like village. Add in the Leeds arrogance factor and it gives it that bit more of a warm feeling to laugh at Leeds. That's all. No obsession. So stop turning round on us as they we have the issue, becasue we don't. But you and your team do. Zomoniac 01-12-2008, 09:56 No you're not the only one, but are probably the only one with the guts to come on here today, however you try and ice the cake. It's not wiildly amusing. We just still remember your fellow fans' arrogance over the last eight years, and their indignity when United knocked you out the league cup about 7 years ago, about how "we shouldn't be losing to teams like Sheffield United"; and when Wednesday beat you 3-2 at Elland Road when you went down , I reproduce a quote from your fans' own website of how "Losing to teams like Sheffield Wednesday is unacceptable". That is two reasons why we take delight in your misfortune. I'm afraid I don't have twenty four hours spare to mention all the others. We have a couple of fans (well, more than a couple) who go a long way to destroying what little credibility we have, and it's sad. But the attitudes I see here from Wednesday fans are often comparable. I sometimes think some of these people would rather Leeds went down than Wednesday went up, which is just completely ridiculous as far as I'm concerned. But it's all relative. We got knocked out of the cup by United, but cup upsets will always happen, and someone has to be on the receiving end. If Liverpool and Chelsea can go out to Barnsley then Leeds, even at their best, can go out to United (who really should've made the FA Cup semis last year, they deserved to beat Boro, a team a division above them). But by the same token, when Leeds have a strong squad and Wednesday don't (I don't recall our exact squad at the time, it certainly wasn't the strength of the 2001 team but it was better than you'd expect for a relegated side), saying losing to Wednesday is unacceptable isn't a sign of arrogance or a dismissal of the opposition, it's setting an expectation based on the relative quality of the two sides at the time. Arsenal losing to Stoke and Hull is unacceptable. Leeds losing to Histon is unacceptable. Or, put more simply, if either Wednesday or United lost to Leeds in a cup game this season, you'd consider it unacceptable, because theoretically it's a game you should easily be able to win. With your strongest side, the only way you would lose to us would be through a sub-standard, complacent performance. That isn't arrogance, and I wouldn't consider that offensive or disrespectful, that's having a realistic expectation to win games against theoretically inferior sides. Zomoniac 01-12-2008, 09:57 I'm not in the slightest obsessed with Leeds. I didn't even watch the game yesterday. As a local rival, Leeds will get stick from Sheffield fans when they lose. No obsession. So stop turning round on us as they we have the issue, becasue we don't. But you and your team do. I have no issue whatsoever. I came on to take a light-hearted bit of stick because my team comically got stuffed by a team that about 3 people in the world have heard of. Enjoy your third division football, your chairman and your delusions of grandeur. Yes, we have more complete idiot supporters than most teams. We probably have more idiot supporters than any team in the country. But they're still very much a minority. Probably about 0.5% of our supporters are moronic thugs. That is a much higher percentage than most, if not all, teams in Britain, but it's still a number small enough to make it seem unreasonable that you would tar us all with that brush. I hate the Leeds fans that smash things up. They're not fans. They're complete retards, they're scum, they don't care about the football. I want to watch my team play without a few hundred thoughtless hooligans ripping things apart and making everyone think I'm the same. Sadly the negative things will always make the press, and we have had enough (fair, I'm not denying we have supporters that create major problems) seriously bad incidents of 'fan' behaviour that the 39,700 of us (well, in 2001 at least, the number's probably nearer 5 now!) who want to arrive at Elland Road, watch a football match and go home are now stereotyped to the profile of the 300 people who insist on creating havoc. This isn't about arrogance or delusions of grandeur, this is about sticking up for my team despite relentless abuse to try and reason that 99% of us are decent people who want to watch a football match, and I'm very sorry that so many of us (relatively, at least) are dirty scumbags, but they're my hometown team, I've supported them all my life, despite the humiliation of starting the third tier on -15, and I'm not going to change now just because, despite having never done anything violent at a football match ever, some people see fit to label me as a thug having never met me, because of the actions of a very small minority. daftlad 01-12-2008, 19:15 did anyone watch look leeds and calender tonight and was there any mention of the result. That it simply not the case, as I have met some very nice people in the last twelve years, and my perception of the city has changed for the better in that time. It's just that I didn't, in a thirty year period between 1966 and 1996 , which I admit may have slightly prejudiced my view! Yog Sothoth 02-12-2008, 11:44 didn't watch it last night. Was it mentioned. Oh I hate Leeds Football Team, Their Supporters, Just anything to do with Leeds United. Huh. Thanks. alchresearch 02-12-2008, 12:58 didn't watch it last night. Fantastic link! Very funny! Word of warning though, lots of naughty words! Bladesman 03-12-2008, 11:15 Me thinks L**ds fans have now realized they are no longer a big time club anymore. Zomoniac 03-12-2008, 11:48 Me thinks L**ds fans have now realized they are no longer a big time club anymore. I think we realised that a long time ago. A big name, perhaps, by the standards of the average team, but a big club? No. The further you fall the smaller you get, and right now we're insignificant. When we first went down and I would look through the table I always thought we were the eyecatching club, the big name in the mass of little teams, like Wednesday were when they went down, like Nottingham Forest were, and so on. But you get one shot to bounce back and show that it was a minor lapse unless you're to disappear into obscurity. We got to the last game and completely blew it, and now I look at the League 1 table and don't even see us as the team that stands out, because I don't feel we're any 'bigger' or more important than the likes of Leicester or Millwall. We went from being a BIG club to a big club when O'Leary left and Venables took over. We went from being a big club to a small club when we lost the playoff final to Watford. We went from being a small club to a nothingness, a laughing stock of nobodies, when we went down to League 1. When we lost to Doncaster, we became even less than that. And I don't know how to describe less than that. I love the club as an entity, because I'm hard-wired to. But I hate the chairman, the manager, the fans and the team. I hate the lack of consistency, the fact that the players rarely seem to try, the manager's inability to adapt his tactics (Sunday was the perfect example of this), the chairman for just being Satan with a bigger beard, and the embarrassment of continuing to play in an 80% empty stadium. And, unlike so many other Leeds fans who lie to themselves, I don't see a way out. Wednesday and Forest are proof that past glories and a big name don't protect a club from freefall. Unless we suddenly get a billionaire sheik wanting to buy us, I don't see us back in the top half of the Premiership in the next decade, if not much longer. Good on ya for telling it like it is and not being blinkered:thumbsup: geocol 04-12-2008, 09:30 I think we realised that a long time ago...... Excellent post. I must be going soft, because you ALMoST invoked some sympathy from me there........ but not quite! It nearly happened once before, over the manner in which you lost to BAyern, in the European Cup final. But then, images of Norman Hunter and Billy Bremner flashed up, and I quickly regained my senses :) But Cantona was right, and French refs can also be bought, as we discovered only too well. On a serious note, almost a decade ago now I spent an evening with one of the two best Leeds fans I have ever met, and we both got absolutely bladdered in an experience of unique human bonding. It was the night after his brother had died, and it puts everything on here into perspective. geocol 04-12-2008, 09:36 The ironic thing, is that had Leeds lost the first round replay at Northampton, nobody would have considered it a disgrace, so you see progress can somethimes be a bad thing :) Zomoniac 04-12-2008, 09:36 Excellent post. It was the night after his brother had died, and it puts everything on here into perspective. It does indeed. Try as we might to suggest otherwise, it's really not that important in the grand scheme of things. Was his brother one of the two murdered in Istanbul? Or is that just a coincidentally close date? Zomoniac 04-12-2008, 09:41 The ironic thing, is that had Leeds lost the first round replay at Northampton, nobody would have considered it a disgrace, so you see progress can somethimes be a bad thing :) And therein lies my problem with consistency. We're never going to win a cup, we need to win league games. We play Northampton away in the FA Cup and win 5-2. A few days later we play exactly the same fixture in the league and lose 2-1. We're not like Burnley or Barnsley or Cardiff or Sheffield United, even at our very best we're simply not good enough to catch a top Premiership team off guard. The top half of the championship teams can get a decent cup run. We can't. We have a 46-game league campaign (probably 49, since we'll lose the playoff final, it being what we do), the FA Cup, League Cup and JPT. The JPT was all we had a chance of winning (until Rotherham battered us), I don't even know why we try with the other competitions. Rest the players, get knocked out, save the energy for league, it being the important thing. geocol 04-12-2008, 10:51 It does indeed. Try as we might to suggest otherwise, it's really not that important in the grand scheme of things. Was his brother one of the two murdered in Istanbul? Or is that just a coincidentally close date? No (and he didn't go to Istanbul either) but you are correct in working out that the incidents were not long apart Working from memory here, I believe his brother died in Leeds a few (but only a few) months prior to that. Whether that death discouraged him going to Istanbul, is not a subject I have ever subsequently broached, and now is probably not an ideal time to do so. geocol 08-12-2008, 10:23 Hello Mr Busdriver, You haven't has much to say for yourself in the last month.
