my car got crashed into last night - it's still under warranty and i'm wondering if that means i'm obliged to go to an authorised dealer to get the bodywork fixed. anyone know?

anyone recommend someone who can fix it?

by the way, whoever crashed into it while it was parked on oakbrook road last night - cheers!

i'm sure you meant to leave a note before you drove off - feel free to come back and leave one now if you want.

Im not sure if your warrenty will cover damage by another vehicle? your insurance will though!!

cheers scottf - My warranty won't cover that kind of damage (if only it did!) - but I'm just a bit paranoid with authorised dealers - isnt there a lot of small print which basically means that you have to get everything done through them (and pay a fortune for it) - or is that just the servicing?

They'll probably have a list of 'authorised garages' that can do the work and still retain the warranty. Best way is to ask them :)

i had my ford ka 1 month, had been driving 3 months. 1st car just passed etc... this is back in october now.

was parked up over night and woke in the morning to find a nice big dint in the passenger side.

luckily the incident had been caught on cctv in the parked area and it revealed that the local jacksons delivery lorry had hit my passenger side and failed to stop/drove off.

anyhow i had a note on my windscreen saying 'come to the reception etc'

i got there and they said all had been caught on cctv. so i was kind of calm, i got home and went straight to the police (incident number etc - spent 4 hours in there)

rang my insurance (tesco) who said yeah youve completed all procedures, if you have a witness statement thats all we'll need to bust the guy who hit you. excellent i thought CCTV. what can be better.

well im now 8 months on, and i still have the dint, nothing has been done and still the jacksons insurance deny the claim.

i am coming to the final stages, and am due to be summoned in court to nail the driver! as i am not going to pay £500 excess for something i did not do.

£500 excess! Crikey thats shocking. Did you not twiddle with the figures when you signed up for the insurance?

Mine was £850 with a £100 excess, £0 voluntary excess (Which is fab for an 18y/old driver)
But to have a £0 excess, it cost about £200 more...
For my excess to be £200, the premium was only £50 less than my £850 quote...
You've got to watch them or they'll have you for a right mug.

the law has been changed so that they can't claim work done elsewhere has invalidated your warranty. Your insurance company will be able to send it to a authorised repairer and this will have no warranty effect.

your insurnace company will recommend a garage for you. Is your warranty a manufacturers one or one by the place ou bought it from.

Insurnace company garages will likely match that warrantee anyway and you will only invalidate the warantee for the area repaired.

beware though. Insurance company recommended garages aren't always the best.

cheers people.

had a proper look at the damage during my lunch break - turns out it looks more like an attempted break in through the tail lights rather than a hit and run job.

they tried to get in the boot but didnt get anything (nothing to steal!)

can't believe how much damage done to the body though. wouldnt be so bad if it was just the plastics.

b*sta*rd

cheers for the advice.

not needed apparently, they were happy with a written statement from a witness, which they got.

they were aware that the cctv would be destroyed within 30 days tho, and never once requested it.
