I know them all, I think, cos I have seen them before, but they are at the better end of the spectrum so well done for choosing them

I agree. I know the answers to them all too, but I won't spoil it for those that don't.
Nomme
I know 8 & 9, but forgot all the others.

Difficult to give a clue without giving the answer.
What do 'Charlie and the Choclate Factory', 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Wizard of Oz' have in common?

Upon returning from work though, he can only travel half way up in the lift and has to walk the rest of the way unless it's raining! WHY?I thought he could also go all the way to the top floor in the lift on Wednesdays, when he goes to the library... or is that a different man? ;)
Agent Dan 04-11-2003, 12:51 Thanks for the clues guys, but I'm still stumped by this one. Give me some time!!!
It is probably the same man yes *G*
The clue?
Hard to give one really.
Just go and get in a lift and have a look at it, see if anything comes to mind
(and just hope they are all designed the same way LOL)
Agent Dan 04-11-2003, 13:33 Is 5 "because manholes are round"???

Yes, because they cant fall down the hole if they are round, the square ones can if you jiggle them around a bit

I think it is also fair to say that he might be able to go to the top floor in the lift on those days when it has rained and he has taken the umbrella out with him
Does question 6 have anything to do with ice cubes?

Correct on both fronts

Hmm, is 4 because Kerry was born on 28 Feb before midnight, and Terry was born after midnight, but on the 29 Feb? That was last year, and Terry only gets a b'day every 4 years?
Not sure if that actually makes any sense at all hehe :D Neeeed sleeeepppp zzzzzzzz
3. study horology
4. x2
7. 'cos he was able to
9.
Agent Dan 05-11-2003, 08:53 Just realised how easy 8 is after far too long staring at it!!! D'Oh!
Still can't get 7 and 9 though... Unless everyone in heaven has name badges or summet... although I'd be worried for where they pin them!!!
Lickable 05-11-2003, 10:57 The guy is a dwarf? Or a munchkin or a umper lumper? Dunno how he reaches the buttons when its raining? Does the lift fill with rain? DOes he gain flying powers? Use his umbrella? Swin cos there is a leak in the lift?
Lickable 05-11-2003, 11:02 3. Its day time!
alchresearch 05-11-2003, 11:59 I'll let it run 'till friday then publish the answers I have here. They are lateral thinking puzzles, so there could be more than one answer.

He wouldn't be older if born on 29th though. Its states he's older. He would be one day younger if born on the 29th as you have a birthday every year even if the date isn't right.
The only thing I can think of is down to the wording....he's an older twin brother, doesn't say he's her twin. I suspect that his actual twin is also older and has a birthday two days later than her! Very clever! Am I right??
Lickable 06-11-2003, 12:56 Number 4 will be summet to do with crossing international borders and switching to a new type of time... i guess... dunno though!
Must be on a plane or summet!
Lickable 06-11-2003, 12:57 Heh i got Number 2 too!
The surgeon is the boys mother!
Lickable 06-11-2003, 12:59 6. The poison was added when he left! or the posion was heavier than liquid so sat at the bottom of the punch.
Number 9 is my favourite, or one of them.
If you want a clue you have to start at the beginning, and ask yourself why the man might have wanted a glass of water

Surely it would make more sense if 1 twin was born before midnight on the 28th Feb and the other one was born on the 1st March, on a non-leap year. The year of the question is a leap year. Is this correct?
alchresearch 07-11-2003, 12:21 OK, here are the answers. They aren't necessarily the only answers you can get, especially relating to the "spiked punch" question.
1 ) Man is a midget. Uses his umbrella to press the buttons.
2 ) The surgeon is his mother.
3 ) It's daytime.
4 ) The twins are on a ship crossing the international date line, one is at the front, one at the rear and in different time zones.
5 ) A round cover won't fall down the hole, no matter which way you turn it.
6 ) The poison was in the ice cubes. (what ice cubes?)
7 ) Adam and Eve were created, not born, so no belly buttons.
8 ) They were triplets.
9 ) The man has hiccups.

This answer doesn't make sense with this question :
4. The Elder Twin
One day Kerry celebrated her birthday. Two days later her older twin brother, Terry, celebrated his birthday. Why?
Answer (which Sidla pretty much got) :
Terry was born on a ship on 1st March.
The ship then crosses the international date line and Kerry is born 28th Feb.
In the year in question it is a leap year so Terry's birthday is 2 days later than Kerry's.

7. Adam & Eve in heaven.
I suggest their sons Able or Seth would be able to recognise them with or without belly buttons.
