I have an Elonex Exentia Media Centre PC, which doesn't seem to want to start-up. It gets to the Windows start-up screen then switches itself off. I've been told that it may need a new power supply or possibly an inverter, but to get it mended I'll need to send it to London for the repair. Is there an expert out there who could possibly mend it for me, without having to send it down south?? :help:
The PSU sounds possible, or maybe the cooling fan on the processor (it will turn itself off if the processor gets too hot). Could also be something else entirely though.
Take it to a decent trustworthy independent PC shop for a better idea, either VeryPC in Hillsborough or the Friendly Computer shop on Wicker (if they're still there) would be a good bet.
There's loads of PC shops around London Road if that's closer, some of them around there know what they're on about & some don't, it's been a while since I've used any of them so I wouldn't know which are which.
I agree with the PSU being a good possibility. It isn't a huge thing to have fixed. I replaced the one in Mrs Vidster's earlier this year. The psu itself cost me about £30.

i had one of these given me and the xp media centre would not boot up. I did a reinstall of windows xp pro. it nows works ok.
Thanks for your help guys and gals. I've found someone to look at it for me at a reasonable price, and they've said it'll be the PSU as well.
