Also have you seen what the new 2009 cars are going to look like?! Daft massive front wings and tiny rear wings, they have started testing last years cars with these parts and look really stupid. I'm afraid these aesthetically pleasing days are long gone: Lotus77 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Lotus_77_Sears_Point.jpg) McLaren MP4/6 (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/McLaren_MP4-6_Honda.jpg):love: Tricky 28-11-2008, 09:03 Ah yes, and there were others too, Brabham (http://www.autosrapidos.com/superautos/b/brabham-bt46b01.jpg) Tyrell (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd29/wfooshee/p34a.jpg) Williams (http://img320.imageshack.us/img320/2866/williams00046fd.jpg) abbasinho 28-11-2008, 09:14 Yeah they're not looking too clever but if it makes the sport more competitive then i'm all for it. How long before the richer teams find some way of making their cars superior to the others again though? Will there be more rule changes after that? Anyway, I found this image http://pix.crash.net/motorsport/view/510906.jpg - not looking to good! Tricky 28-11-2008, 10:00 Hee hee, I was looking for one like that, nice one. I'm sure I can remember one with triple rear wings that were on long poles so that they appeared to be way above the cockpit. Maybe it was a bad dream. scottishdude 28-11-2008, 11:36 I thought JPS Lotus was Ace! sccsux 29-11-2008, 10:40 Deleted by me! cloudforest 29-11-2008, 11:40 I think it's time to stop using the circuits where it's impossible to overtake. I'm thinking of Monaco as a prime example. But that will never happen because it's a circuit loved by money men and 'celebs' who probably never watch the whole race. Here's one with wings on long poles! http://www.f1technical.net/f1db/cars/241 Heyesey 29-11-2008, 11:48 I think it's time to stop using the circuits where it's impossible to overtake. Take your point with Monaco, but with the current car design "where it's impossible to overtake" covers damn near everywhere. There's just too much dirty air behind cars, so you can't get up close to them. That's what they're trying to remove with the redesign rules. No no no.. you've got it all wrong... it's because the drivers don't want to overtake (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7750099.stm).. didn't you know?? Ecclestone's losing the plot. I took it that the "it's not acceptable a driver wins the championship without winning races" dig was aimed at Hamilton and particularly his 5th place finish in Brazil? So is he suggesting that Hamilton hasn't tried to overtake during the season? Maybe his reluctance to do so in Brazil was down to what has happened to him when he has tried to overtake in previous races. Ecclestone should look at the clowns that run the sport (aside from him :suspect: ) and the ridiclulous rules that are now in place. They are what are killing the sport, alongside the car regs that have produced the dirty air issue. Leaving aside what I said in the my previous post, if 'ugly' cars help increase overtaking chances then I'm all for it. mr craig 29-11-2008, 23:00 I'm afraid these aesthetically pleasing days are long gone: McLaren MP4/6 (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/McLaren_MP4-6_Honda.jpg):love: The best looking F1 car ever. F1 has become far to saturated with rules. _Buzz_ 30-11-2008, 11:19 The medals system is just plain daft. It would leave half the grid with little or no hope of getting anything. If the idea is to make drivers race for position then the points should be far higher and a bigger difference between each place. There should also be points awarded for just finishing, so the points should go down to the last car left running, the only non-scoreres would be cars that didn't complete the race. Points for pole and points for fastest lap in the race would make it a champoinship for ALL on the grid, not just the top 3 or 4 teams. Get shut of the stupid safety car rules or stop pit stops for refuelling altogether and make stops for tyres only. uniden300 02-12-2008, 22:18 they allso should get rid of the computors to and let the driver drive the car show there driveing skills , 1 fuel stop, 1 tyre stop , and get shut of the bloody stupid idea qulaifieing times to Tricky 08-12-2008, 15:25 Take your point with Monaco, but with the current car design "where it's impossible to overtake" covers damn near everywhere. There's just too much dirty air behind cars, so you can't get up close to them. That's what they're trying to remove with the redesign rules. Yup. The dirty air is deliberate. Wings and those bits at the side are tested not only for performance advantage, but for the difficulty in driving anywhere near behind them. That's why a number of insiders were calling for 'standard' rear wings for all teams. I suppose this is a compromise which allows the teams to experiment and make those technological leaps forward which are such a fundamental part of F1. saxon51 13-12-2008, 16:32 I'd settle for going back to these days F1-wise.
