any ideas ? and can i safely delete them ?
there are several of them but the last three digits are all different

Right click on them and select properties. You'll probably find some clues as to their origin therein.

Forgive me for being ignorant depoix but where are you viewing these downloaded programs?
The only downloaded programs list i use is in Firefox.

I've just had a scout through windows and can't find anything apart from in Add/Remove programs (unless you mean the 'All Programs' list) :?

You'll find them in c:\windows\Downloaded Program Files

It's where Internet Explorer stores downloaded ActiveX controls.
