Hello Sheffield Knitters!

I'm a student at the university of Sheffield, and am putting together a project for my course which is a website about knitting in Sheffield. I'd like to include comment and information from all sorts of different people who knit for different reasons in Sheffield, and was hoping some of you knitters on the forum might be able to help!

I was wondering whether any of you are (or know someone who is....):

A teacher that uses knitting in the classroom with students for reasons other than the craft itself (perhaps students with learning disabilities, or teaching students how to count)

Any kind of physical/mental health practitioner who views knitting as a past-time that has positive health benefits

A knitter who views knitting as a radical/feminist statement

A knitter who has started knitting their own clothes/belongings as a result of the credit crunch/recession that we all keep hearing so much about...

A knitter who knits for charitable purposes

OR if you have any kind of weird or wonderful reason behind your knitting or the final products (like you're trying to knit the world's biggest hat or knit with the world's biggest needles)

If you are (or know someone that is) doing any of those things and would be willing to speak to me, I'd be really grateful! The website is only intended to be as a project for university but my plan is to try and find a website or provider that would be willing to host my project as a microsite.

If you could PM me that would be brilliant, or you can email me on jop08hpp@sheffield.ac.uk.

Thanks so much, knitters of Sheffield!

Hi there heliaphoenix. I read recently, I think in the local Star newspaper about a midwife who is helping pregnant women to knit to prevent them smoking. Can't remember all the details but I am sure you can check it on the web site. So sorry you didn't make it to knit and natter this week hope you come in 2 weeks.
