Hi,

We are moving to Sheffield in August and are looking for good areas to live. We looking to buy a house and want to live in a quiet location with good road links to Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, and also hospitals in Worksop, Doncaster, and Barnsley.

We have been recommended areas like Chapeltown, Grenoside and Ecclesfield. Do you know if these areas are good places to live?

Thanks.

I live in Ecclesfield and I like it. 2 mins from M1, 5 mins from Meadowhall, train station 2 mins away in Chapeltown, frequent buses to town, nice pubs, a morrisons and a few good chippies!

Never see any trouble either.

Hi,

I've lived in the Burncross area of Chapeltown for 18 months now (after 20 years in Walkley). I'm delighted with the area - friendly, good shops and general amenities (particularly good health centre), excellent pubs. I haven't heard of any crime or trouble, but I'm led to believe that parts of High Green are a bit dodgy. There's a fairly decent bus service in and out of town, but the main road (A61) gets very congested and slows journey times. There's also a fairly frequent train service from the centre of Chapeltown.

It gets a bit "lively" in the centre of Chapeltown on Friday and Saturday nights, but nearby is an excellent pub called The Commercial, which is a veritable oasis; nice atmosphere and more real ales than you can shake a stick at!

I'd say Chapeltown is a bit more blue collar and less inclusive/cosmopolitan than Walkley or Crookes, but those districts have become increasingly unaffordable in recent years.

I've also got mates who live in Grenoside and Ecclesfield, and they both like it.

Hope this helps.

Sothall / Beighton / Crystal Peaks area is good for that commute. I live in Sothall and work in Worksop (Manton Wood) - it is 25 minutes drive out of Rush hour ir 30 to 40 minutes in Rush hour. My House mate works at Weston Park and again similar times but can be upto 50 minutes in Rush hour. The area is very handy for the M1 and has trams into Sheffield so it is good for commuting and nights out.
