I prefer a nice shawl collared dj with proper horsehair padding and tapered single pleated trousers.

Sad Old Gits is the correct term I believe, but no, there are plenty of young 'uns on here, under 18 even. Mind you there are also quite a few Sad Older Gits too.

And it's sad old gits like me who are the gobby ones and scare the anklebiters off with silly replies.

So back on topic now so you whippersnappers can tell the young fittdiva here who your favourite disc jockey is

(Now then, now then, mine's Jimmy Saville btw, owsa bout that then? - the only cuban cigar smoking, rolls royce driving, marathon running, medallion wearing, broadmoor residing, septuagenarian disc jockey in the whole wide world)!

yes, and what genre? also do we need to give reasons for naming our favourites - you haven't.

e.g. i like andy farley because he dj's at nursey parties sponsored by brand named rusks and his top tune of the moment is bob the builder.

Whilest were on the subject can anyone remember the name of the woman who presented family favourites in the 60s.

Who can forget the hilarity of Noel Edmonds' Late Late Breakfast Show (or somesuch banal confection) where they 'killed that bloke' (Michael Lush). Television going mad, even then in 1986 (or was it 87?).

I always liked Nick Abbott on early Virgin Radio (mw). He didn't really give a toss about the music, just mechanically went through the playlists and just ranted ad hoc for most of the show. patchy, but great fun when he got it right,

Kenny Ken (old school - love it!), Kenny Carpenter (Studio 54) and Harry Romero.

For what it's worth: Cajmere, DJ Sneak, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Derrick Carter, Richie Hawtin.

Incidentally, according to the book 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' by Bill Brewster, Jimmy Saville was in all likelihood the first person IN THE WORLD to run a night at which he just played records for a paying public to dance to. Up till then, live music was always the order of the day. His modest experiments somewhere in West Yorkshire predated similar developments in America and Jamaica by a few years.

Sasha (between 1991-94 was my personal favourite time in his career), DJ Premier (Gang Star), DJ David (1990 world DJ champ)
and a few others who played when I was a regular at the various shindigs around the country!
Lost track of all the DJ's these days though.

To be honest, as long as the music is good, I don't really care who is DJing (in a club). I've never really been impressed by names on flyers/posters.

Heh heh sounds phat mate! My last great D'n'B gig was in Notts Ballroom for detonation - had grooverider and a load of locals there, but the system was second to none! The speakers had to be chained to the walls!!! Fabric's usually good although I've not been there in ages...

Jazzy Jeff is pretty special, as is Cutmaster Swift. Rahzel the human beatbox is good, and the Masters at Work never disappoint.

My all time favourite though has to be Tim Westwood, now drop the bomb!!! (Tongue firmly placed in cheek!!!)
