Just as a matter of interest, has anyone used the Green Thumb lawncare treatment firm? Can anyone recommend them, or alternatively can anyone tell me why I shouldn't touch them with a bargepole?

Yes, we've used them for a while now. The service 'does exactly what it says on the tin' - the grass is healthy and the lawn is free from weeds, moss, dandelions etc. Despite being only about 6 feet from a grass verge which is absolutely covered in dandelions, they have not managed to seed themselves onto our lawn since we started having the Greenthumb treatments. They call 4 times a year (spring, 2x summer, autumn). They don't mow the grass or do any other gardening work, just spread their pellets on the lawn - the pellets soon dissolve themselves to leave no visible trace.
Overall, I'm pleased and will continue using them.

How much does this cost Northernboy? My lawn is pretty much all weed, with perhaps 2 or maybe 3 single blades of grass on it altogether!

Thankyou.

We use Green Thumb - they've just done our first treatment & its worked really well, all the weeds are dying off now & we did have loads of them!

It costs just £13 per treatment, and is really good value - we've tried other things but the weeds came back.

The number for Sheffield is: 0114 276 0101

We're charged £13 per treatment, but we're lucky that our lawn joins onto the next door neighbours, so we get two lawns for the price of one! £6.50 each, well worth it.

Have you got a phone number for this magical service? I've just been outside to check my garden, and it's bad.

Thanks for the information - at least I know it's not a complete con now. I was thinking of giving them a go because I've got a whole collection of nasties in my lawn (dandelions, buttercups, ragwort, moss etc.) so it's getting past a joke.

i'd be interesting to know what the active ingredients in this stuff are

I know I have raked this thread up:D, but would be interested to hear any more opinions about green thumb.

I guess this could be moved to the gardening forum that probably didn't exist when this thread was sown:D

I've used them for about five years. During that time they've done the usual weed & feeds and I've had my lawns scarified twice. It's also been aerated and it looks a picture.

After reading the original replies on this thread I did indeed get them to come and do my lawn as well, and over the past three years it certainly has made a difference - all the nasties in the lawn that I referred to above have gone, and it's looking nice and green, so I'm reasonably impressed with them. Their standard visit is still £13 but it's going up to £15 from next time, and you get them coming about 4 times a year as a rule.

The amount they charge is dependent on the size of garden.
I'm paying quite a bit more than the £13 others have quoted, but still consider it good value as the lawn is certainly seeing the benefits, and whatever it is they use it works a lot better than anything I've tried over the years.

Probably best to give them a go especially as you have ragwort.

My parents use them and they really are great.

What's it like for animals?

you probably need a vet or a drug councillor if your animals have a weed problem

What's it like for animals?

We had two dogs, and all we had to do was keep them off for a couple of hours if they had used weedkiller.

They told us that was as much to stop them walking it back into the house (would stain the carpet) as anything else.

The feed granules are not a problem.

I have used Green thumb for a few years and my garden is certainly greener and nearly moss free. It is about the same price as if you did it yourself, so quite a good deal.

As for animals and children. I have a cat and two toddlers. It is best to keep the toddlers off the lawn the day it is done but fine after that. The cat does what he feels like! But has never been a problem.

I think they do most of our road's houses now.

I was considering re-turfing a few years ago but thought I would give Greenthumb a go before investigating a new lawn. Brilliant! £13 a session, 4 sessions a year. I did re-seed a few bare patches but apart from regular mowing, don't have to do a thing. This year in particular, the grass looks so healthy, and growing very quickly - probably a lot to do with all the rain - but no weeds, no patches. Great.

What area do you live in? I know someone who does the odd bit of gardening for others.

What's it like for animals? Not had any since using Green Thumb. Totally eradicated!:hihi:

Used them since they first started up in S Sheffield. Neighbours envy us having the greenest lawn around, although not completely weed-free, but certainly moss-free.

I'd recommend them to anyone; for around a £1 per week over the year, it's cheaper than doing your own weeding/feeding. Also, they were due to come 2 weeks ago but put a note through the door to say that the ground was too wet, and they're coming today instead.
