Nearly right.

It was 1988.

My favourites are Slade, Wizzard, Gilbert O'Sullivan's Christmas Song, Hey! My Christmas by Showaddywaddy and although not a Christmas song itself, Freiheit's Keeping The Dream Alive.

And I must admit, with having two young daughters, the Tweenies Christmas album is groovy man!!:hihi:

I never heard Mud's "Lonely this Christmas" till it was on Top of the Pops 2 a while back, that's a good Christmas song IMO.

Meh, it's Christmassy.

Some rock artists produced a series of albums called 'A very merry Christmas' full of covers of Christmas songs, really good to listen to.

Dean Martin - Let it snow
Judy Garland - Have yourself a merry little Christmas are both personal favourites.

Can you hear what I hear? Wasn't that part of the soundtrack of the first Gremlins movie in 84? It's playing in the scene where Billy's Mum gets attacked by Stripe.

I think most Christmas songs are crippled when they start being played at the beginning of November. Is that just me?

I also think it's sad The Darkness's 'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' is forgotten about. They had the decency to wallow in their tackyness, we should respect that. :)

Why has Band Aid II (1989) been wiped from history? (Aside from it being rubbish).

Fairytale of New York
O Holy Night (O Helga Natt) Jussi Bjorling

27-11-2008, 15:46
The problem with Fairytale of New York is that it is SO played to death that I've still got it ringing in my ears from last Christmas.

A bit like Golden Brown by the Stranglers or Lou Reed's Perfect Day, it's become a cuddly, singalong anthem to an audience who haven't a clue that (lyrically) it's anything but!

Yes, it's a fabulous song but I even feel that Kirstly MacColl's early demise has added to its relevance.
