Blackadder cast return for Christmas special
Mon Nov 24, 2008 12:30pm GMT

LONDON (Reuters) - The cast of hit comedy series Blackadder will return to the small screen in a one-off documentary over Christmas as part of the BBC's seasonal schedule.

The broadcaster said "Blackadder Rides Again" would feature the first in-depth interview with actor Rowan Atkinson, who played Edmund Blackadder and his descendants in the show's four series between 1983 and 1989.

Other stars from the historical comedy taking part in the behind-the-scenes feature include Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Miranda Richardson and Tony Robinson, who played Blackadder's long-suffering sidekick Baldrick.

"We are extremely excited to have persuaded the entire creative team behind this iconic sitcom to appear in the same show for the very first time since they all worked together," said the documentary's executive producer Ricky Kelehar.

The series spanned nearly 500 years of British history as it tracked Blackadder's adventures from 15th century medieval England to the trenches of World War One.

In a 2004 BBC poll, viewers said Blackadder was their second-favourite situation comedy of all time, behind the David Jason series "Only Fools and Horses."

Blackadder was fantastic, but it's time has passed.I hope they don't make any more and spoil the memory of a great series.Just keep enjoying the originals.

Agreed. It ended on a high and nothing they did now would recapture the brilliance. The Millenium special they did proved that.

Blackadder has been the highlight of Rowan Atkinson's career IMO, he's never bettered it... even if he did make a ridiculous amount of money selling Mr Bean to the non-English speaking world.

Disagree....unless they totally change the cast.

Blackadder is the best comedy ever! can watch it again and again and again and it's still so funny.. but as funky say's they shouldn't ruin a good thing as the millenium one proved.

There was something similar on UK Gold a few weeks ago: a few hours' worth of interviews with the cast, Ben Elton, Richard Curtis, Michael Grade; clips from the four series etc. Very good it was too. Stephen Fry was very proud of his "you twist and turn like a twisty-turny thing" line (apparently he came up with it himself).
..."We are extremely excited to have persuaded the entire creative team behind this iconic sitcom to appear in the same show for the very first time since they all worked together," said the documentary's executive producer Ricky Kelehar.
That was pretty much the gist of the UK Gold programme.

This is a DOCUMENTARY!! not a new blackadder show or 1 off, quite a few posters seem to think its another 1 off new episode (after the awful millenium one...god I hope not) I think they have learned there lesson now! and 2nd only to only fools and horses is prob where I'd put it as well.

I have seen blackadder 2-4 so many times its mental....1st one is not my kinda thing.
