View Full Version : How much does a car window cost?
improveddc 29-05-2005, 21:46 Hello
Tonight my friend and housemate has had her car window smashed in by either someone doing it for fun (which it must be) or they got disturbed as nothing was missing, the door wasn't even unlocked. Might be linked to someone trying to break into the house last night as well through a window.
Anyhows how much does acar window cost, it s for the passenegr side on a Metro, pretty cheap i hope????

The last window I replaced was for a passenger side Hyundai Accent Coupe, If I remember rightly it cost me £140 or something like that. A metro window is much smaller than the one for a Hyundai, so I would think it would cost a lot less than that.
Check your insurance. It shouldn't affect any NCB you may have, although there will be an excess.
Plain Talker 29-05-2005, 21:56 for a metro, it'd probably be much more economical to go to a scrapyard, and pick up one from a scrapper!
it's not like metroes are newer cars where the re wouldn't be some in the scrapyard, like when my ex hub's Proton Drivers-side window was smashed in, a couple of years ago.
there'll be plenty of choice if you go there, improvedcc.
it cost us nearly £200 quid to get ours fixed. bloody vandals!

spyro2000 29-05-2005, 22:05 Plain Talker makes a good point.
What Reg plate is the car???
Depending on the value of the car depends on if its worth getting a new window.
Rob Roy, by the sounds of it, improveddc's housemat is probably insured 3rd party. I was insured 3rd party in my old car. It wasnt a very expensive car so theres no point going fully comp.
improveddc 29-05-2005, 22:14 Thanks people for the info - i dunno what reg it is off hand, probably p at the latest. Scrap yard could be good shes checking the insurance to see what the deal is.
Only cost me 70 notes...
That was when some idiot smashed it down neepsend :(
Henrietta 29-05-2005, 23:28 Ring round local scrapyards. Not 100% sure, but windows are unlikely to cost more than around £20. Also, its a simple enough job to do it yourself - honestly! Just a matter of taking the inside of the door off and you can see everything clear and simple. Only a few screws :P
spyro2000 30-05-2005, 01:22 yeah if its a P reg then I wouldnt bother gettin it brand new, it would cost nearly as much as the car is worth. Go with what Henrietta says, that would be the best option.
micksheff 30-05-2005, 07:22 It will cost about £15 for unscratched and £10 scratched from scrapyard. Then about £30 to have it fitted in a garage.
I paid £45 when mine was done last year.
alchresearch 30-05-2005, 10:46 Metro windows are quite easy to fit, it may be more economical to pick up a Haynes manual rather than pay to have it fitted.
spiffymonkey 30-05-2005, 13:31 I agree with what's been said here; go to a scrapyard and pick one up. I did that when some scrote tried to crowbar my door off and I got a new one for £35. Fitted it in 20mins.
