There will be no parade. From what I gather they were offered one but turned down the invite from the council - which was probably a wise idea "just in case.."

Genuine congrats to all the Owls from me too - just don't expect an "easy!-easy!" ride down at Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane next season! ;-)

UP THE OWLS

BUT.......... we were bloody lucky, yet again it was two different owls teams on display :(
If it wasnt the luck in getting that penalty and sending off i dont know if we'd have managed to win....we always manage to play a blinder then the next second stand still completely and lose.......no matter how many managers or players we change we STILL manage to be a jekyll and hyde team??
TBH i dont think we'll survive in the championship playing like we always do.

Just got back from Cardiff myself and I've lost my voice and I think I have broken my hands from all the clapping. I just wanted to congratulate the Owls again for a fantastic game that was so dramatic it had me on the edge of my seat fro start to finish. I felt a little like a film in parts where we. were winning, losing, winning then simply showing off but I'm thrilled to bits for the team. I couldn't watch the penalty, i;d pulled my hat over my eyes I was so nervous and when we got the 3rd, I don't think I've ever felt as a part of something so big.

I'd like to give a big congratulations to all the fans who went down there, I don't know if I was the only one but the stadium had an electric atmosphere even from when I got in there at 1:30. We stayed until the last possible time and even then the atmosphere was buzzing.

I also want to pass on my commiserations to the players and fans of hartlepool, I felt a little sorry that the Wednesday fans seemed to always drown them out (from where I was sat anyway) and the team gave us a really good game. For the first twenty minutes of the second half, they played their hearts out and really had me thinking we'd lost it.

It was a shame to lose a player but since i didn't have a good view of the penalty and foul I'm going to reserve judgment until I've watched the tape recording of the match tomorrow for my celebration day.

UP THE OWLS!

E I E I E I O UP THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE WE GO!

Looking forward to some timeless classic derbies next season, Leeds and sufc. We've missed playing you lads!

If we were that poor we wouldn't have been in the top 4.

If we were that poor we wouldn't have beaten Brentford & Hartlepool.

If we were that poor we wouldn't have an average 25,000 crowd.

If we were that poor we wouldn't have won the manager of the month on consecutive months.

If we were that poor we wouldn't have WON the play-off final!

4-0? Must have been at a different game to me! Mind you, nothing like a Wendy fan to stretch a story to make it sound good!

Jeez! just listen to the jealousy, anger, resentment . . . . . what is it with the Blunts?

Jealousy? Resentment? Nah. Remember, you've just been promoted to a division - by beating those world beaters Hartlepool (never played outside bottom two divisions) - that we are already in.

Anger? Yes for Hartlepool by the fact that it was a dodgy refereeing decision that lost them the game. A full season turned by one decision.

But boys, enjoy your moments of (cough splutter) glory. Enjoy the summer. It's gonna be a long winter. Especially if you think that Bruce Dyer is going to keep you in this division. Hee hee.

Lets check the jealousy:
John Harley or Paul Heckingbottom?
Paul Iffil or John Paul McGovern?
Danny Webber or Bruce Dyer?
Lillian Nellis or Craig Rocastle?

Gosh this is hard. I went through the Wendy side yesterday and thought how many of that team would get into the United side at the moment. Glen Whelan might make the sub bench but other than that I could not think of any. Might give you an idea of the amount of work you got to do this summer. But have you got the funds to do it? I think not. Enjoy it whilst it lasts!

We experienced something extraordinary on the way home from the game. At about 11.00pm (can't remember the exact time) at a service station on the M42 we were sat down and heard what sounded like a group of yobs chanting.

When we turned around we saw the entire Sheffield Wednesday team parading around singing songs and mixing in with Owls fans inside the service station. The playoff trophy was being banded around by the players and they were being congratulated by everyone.

Sturrock was there too but his celebrations were a little more muted than the players who were clearly pleased and p***ed!! What a day!

I'll post a pick in a bit that I took on my phone of Heckingbottom lifting the cup as he descended the escalators - it'll be a little pit pixelated though.

I would not say that finishing 8th is a failure in any league, Utd are established in the Championship, not many that have gone up have stayed up.Good luck to the Owls.It will be tough so consolidation is the key for the Owls not going on about 6 points from Utd 6 points don't make a season.UP THE BLADES

MobileB - Wednesday got promoted and are now in the Championship, like you said 'the division you are already in'. The division you have been in for years - the division you cant get out of, the one where you cant even make the play-offs.

It makes me smile when Blunts like you have to resort to even going through Wednesday's team to see how many would get in your team. . .. I think you really should get out more.

I think not. Enjoy it whilst it lasts!

Wonderful, horrible, gut wrenching, ecstasy. Feelings I had yesterday.

Well done Wednesday, some success at last.

I'm assuming Robbie is a Unitedite with his comment "Wednesday were poor until Hartlepool went down to 10 men". Wednesday were far the better side overall, especially in the first half when it was very much 11 v 11. The only time Hartlepool had the upperhand was early in the second half. The rest of the match was dominated in terms of possession and chances by Wednesday. The penalty decision wasn't 100% but the 3 subs changed the match and they may have scored without a penalty anyway, and also Wednesday have had more than their fair share of decisions going against them over the years. All in all a deserved victory.

Your knowledge of United will tell you that Bromby actually stopped taking throw ins when they moved him to centre half other than the odd one here and there. But thanks for Bromby and Quinn. I think the quote of the year goes to Geary though who said when asked about the difference between the two clubs "We are being coached properly now."

As for comparing teams, I actually thought that was a logical discussion that most serious footie supporters do about any team. Take your current team, select a rival, and see how many players you would swap. As I said, the only Wendy player I would take is Whelan. How many United players would you take the other way? Being realistic, your star player (McGovern) was not good enough for this division two years ago. I don't think he will cut it now.

Like I said, enjoy your summer cos you're in for a long hard winter.

Warnock welcomes Owls
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock welcomed the return to the Championship of city rivals Wednesday, hailing derby matches between the two clubs as "good for the city".
Wednesday's 4-2 play-off final win over Hartlepool on Sunday ensured Steel City derbies will return to Hillsborough and Bramall Lane.
Warnock said: "United fans don't enjoy seeing Wednesday do well but I just feel that derby games are good for the city.
"They're great games to be involved in, with a wonderful atmosphere and we'll look forward to enjoying them once again next season.
"We don't have a bad record against them in recent times, so we'll look forward to the fixtures."

Whatever Wednesday's average gate is - it's bigger than United's. FACT!!

If United had been promoted from any division, their supporters would be celebrating too. FACT!!

The Wednesday line-up that will contest next season's opener will be vastly different to yesterday's team. FACT!!

After years of decline it now seems that the club is at last moving forward. FACT!!

So there you go - a few facts for you.

No-one's under any illusions - it'll be a thousand times tougher next season. But at least we have a manager that we all have complete confidence in. FACT!!

Whatever has gone before or will happen in the future - we (the die-hards) had a wonderful day out yesterday complete with a few thousand hangers-on. And - we're going to savour it too.

"That old chestnut" as you call it is an ongoing, current fact - so not old at all. Unitedites hate this being mentioned so I wouldn't expect you to feel any differently.

All clubs taking part in big games have thier "hangers-on" - as I'm sure any Utd fan would know. You've had quite a few big games of your own over the last couple of years or so and the numbers you took to Old Trafford and the Millenium Stadium bear this out.

We all know we need a number of new faces to make our mark in our new division. But if we spend the same amount of time there that you have - then I'd consider it failure.

As for bringing new facts to the argument - it's not my intention to argue. Yesterday I saw my team being succesful in the play-offs and it's a tremendous feeling - but never having seen it yourself i wouldn't expect you to understand.

These last two points I am genuinely interested in. Given that you gutted and rebuilt the team at the end of last season, you have all but two of your players, I believe, still under contract. One of those out of contract is your captain whom you may wish to keep.

I hear that Mr Sturrock was in Mr Allens office last week asking for £1million if you got promoted and left in a strop when he got nothing.

So given that you that your first 9,000 season ticket you sell is to service your debt. FACT!!

Given that the manager will not be given any money to spend. FACT!!

Given that the manager has been told that his wage bill has to be £2 million next season, exactly the same as Brighton & Hove Albion. FACT!!

Given that you have to try and ship out players on contracts to bring in better players but not pay them anymore, how on earth will those last two facts that you state come true. And this is a genuine question.

The reason he'll bring in better players than the ones he'll release is because he is a much better manager than the one that brought those players in in the first place.
There is no doubt the club is moving forward - promotion sort of makes it quite obvious.
I don't expect you to take any enjoyment out of our promotion as I certainly wouldn't if the boot was on the other foot - but one thing is undeniable - there is a definite feel-good factor about our club that has been missing for far too long. Can you at least understand that?

Of course I understand it. I cannot understand the comments I have heard though such as "we'll be in the Premier League next season" etc. The playing standards of the club are very poor. They came 5th in a league that was won by Luton Town. They scraped through promotion because of a dodgy penalty. The club cannot move the players on if the players do not wish to be moved on (and as Wendy are such a big club, why should they?).

So based on all this, what would a success be next season for you?

OK, I apologise for the attendance error - 23,000 - it still sh*ts on the Blunts average. The Blunts wanted Warlocks head most of last season because he kept putting out the wrong formation - a quick read of the Blunts thread will tell you that.

WE IN BLUE & WHITE ARE CELEBRATING WEDNESDAY'S ACHIEVEMENT!!! THEY ARE DESERVEDLY PROMOTED!!

If you can't put up with that 'FACT' then you really are a sad and lonely individual that should get a life and return to your hole. From MobileB's & Robbies posts all I can see if fear and jealousy. Fear of the fact that they know we are bigger, better and will whoop their as**s next season.

Wednesday have a manager the Blunts wish they had - they wish they had our fanbase, they wish they had our ground, now they are comparing our teams wishing they had our players and popularity. . . NO CHANCE PIGGIES!

I think you need to consult your dictionary - Premier 'IN SHEFFIELD' means 'top' or 'best' IN SHEFFIELD!!! - not 'going to gain instant promotion into a higher league.

My stats are no way as funny as your constant whinging on a gloriuos weekend for Sheffield Wednesday! admit it - you're jealous and thats the main fact of the matter. It doesn't matter what the Blades say - we're confident that we can build on this season's successes. To be fair we'd try and rain on their parade if they were doing well.

Let's let the football do the talking next year and I'll certainly be looking forward to taking on United because I fancy our chances.

All's I know is Wednesday have their bite back and we've got some good momentum to take into next season. Things are looking up for the first time in a long while and in my eyes we have the potential to challenge for promotion because we have a solid manager at the helm and the one of the best sets of fans in the country. Perfect foundations.

It's the players on the pitch that play the game though.

Thankyou It is a great that both Sheffield teams are in the Championship,we have bought some decent players for next season & I would like to think both teams will do well for our great City.I am fed up with Leeds saying they are the best let both Sheffield teams beat these whinging has beens next season.UP THE BLADES.

For MobileB:
Look at the Yorkshire Post website today. According to them Wednesday's wage bill budget has been raised by 50% to £3 million and not the £2 million you say. And i prefer to believe their sources rather than yours. As for Sturrock leaving Allen's office "in a strop" - do you really believe that yourself?

Like I said - we're moving forward at long last.

Anyone with any sense will accept a season of mid-table obscurity next season - it'll give us a chance to grow and to lay the foundation for a promotion push over the couple after.

Still celebrating - still proud - and still gonna be there next season and beyond.

Oh what joy to be an Owl.

Thankyou and good bye.

£3 million? To give you some ideas - Leeds £17 million, Wovles £11 million. United last season was £6.5 million and they are having to increase it to compete. Like I said, enjoy the summer you are in for a long winter.

But your £2 million quote was 50% out.

And still no word on your "Sturrock in a strop" remark.

Or is it the notion of a Unitedite talking rubbish too fantastic to believe??

Still celebrating!!

The £2million quotation was actually from Sturrock when he was looking to sign players close to deadline day. He said to the effect that he had been instructed to get the payroll down to that level for this season irrespective of what division they were in.

In terms of the Sturrock strop ..... it is hearsay. Will we ever know? But where I heard it from is usually quite close (same person told me Bromby was signing for United a week before even the rumours started circulating) and you know what they say about smoke and fire.

I could elaborate - I have a friend who is very high up in the Southampton heirachy and could tell you the real reason why they got rid - but, like anything, when things are going well for a club they seem to be accepted.

Can I just make one other point, I don't think I have ever called for Warnock to be sacked.

I would just like to say well done to Wednesday and cheers for an unforgettable day.
Yes, this was only my 3rd game of the season (including York away friendly). I assume that some Blades fans will think that this means I was one of those who climbed out of the woodwork to watch the Owls at Cardiff. I would like to assure you narrow-minded ignorant gits that this is not the case, and I'm sure it is the same for many other Wednesdayites.
I had a season ticket from when I was 6 right up until I left sheffield to go to Glasgow uni. I just dont have the funds to travel down to Sheffield every other week to watch Wednesday, although there was no way I was going to miss the Play-Off final, which I had to take a day off work for.
I'm looking forward to pre-season, and seeing the (hopefully) new-look Owls against Partick, Dundee, Dundee Utd and Wolves. It may be the last chance I get for a while

Up the Owls!

I think you need to consult your dictionary - Premier 'IN SHEFFIELD' means 'top' or 'best' IN SHEFFIELD!!! - not 'going to gain instant promotion into a higher league.

by calling a team "sheffields premier team" it can be miscontrued a couple of ways.......

the first being "premier" as in PREMIER LEAGUE..... we are shefield premier team...... the second being..... sheffields best team. either way, both would be false statements, but lets leave that to be decided at end of next season

your stats was way off the mark, it really is that simple...... as for jealousy, what exactly is there to be jealous about? you got promoted from a league below us...... we are jealous if you had won the Vans trophy, WE WOULDNT BE, as we dont get entered in to either competition.

and no it is not childish name calling.... the facts are simple.....
i congratulated wednesday on going up, i was in the stadium celebrating the victory, the fact you cant get it in to your head that i am (A) not jealous and (B) happy for wednesday makes you and "some" fans stupid

Simply, you are jealous of our popularity, our success and the fact that we are being shown in the media alot more than you at the pigsty in a good light.

So you went to the match at Cardiff - SO WHAT!! You are a blunt and you will always be a blunt and if Wednesday had lost you would have been on here telling us all that the Blunts are much better - when they're NOT!

not quite got a hang of that quoting have you??

anyways..... like i say, the statement you made could be chosen to be looked at either way, ie best team/in premier league

so im jealous of your popularity, your success and the fact that you are being shown in the media alot more than us?
how do you work that out? you may have had the plaudits from the media on monday morning..... where are they now? and how do you mean popularity? are you refering back to your attendance again? cause if yes, then same old wednesday really.....

its people like yourself lestat who ruin a decent reputation weds have, you think you know everything, and then when proved wrong revert to insults and very strange coments, ie jealousy

incidentaly, how many games do you go to a season lestat? and answer truthfully........

It's actually people like you Robbie that ruin good threads with your negativeness. Wednesday fans are celebrating the fact that Wednesday are promoted - Me being one of them.

Last season I went to about 20 games - this is mainly due to the fact that I work weekends and sometimes cannot get away.

By the way - you only proved me wrong on the attendance - ( for which I did apologise and stood corrected. So it was 23,000 & not 25,000 - it's still sh*****g on your pigsty attendances.

Just like to say what an enjoyable thread this has been. I think it's fab that we will be able to lock horns with the blades again.

I would also like to add that unlike when we last met we will be made of much sterner stuff next season and although on paper the blades (at the moment) are the better side, I think Paul Sturrock is capable of outwitting you lads next season.

Thanks chuffinel (top name by the way), it's very difficult to say at this point not knowing what each team will be, but at the moment I have a sneaking suspicion that as underdogs we may just edge it like you lot have done in the past. I have to say though, that we (as have you) have been in the big league for most of our history so it's nothing new and it's where both Sheffield teams belong. Us at the top and you fighting for relegation every season of course.

I worked in the stadium for the match, on the bar. I have to say it was the most electric atmosphere i have experienced. First time ive been to a football match, i dont like football but i would go just for the atmosphere.

Unfortunately i was working on the loosing end.

If all the fans did was leave a pile of trash only, they should almost be commended. In some North American cities they would have set vehicles on fire and smashed windows.

To everyone who doesnt think the Owls deserved to win because of the penalty decision, notice that the free kick from which HP scored their second goal shouldnt have been given.
It was a good tackle winning the ball,
