3 weeks ago, i bought 2 baby male rabbits (brothers from the same litter) for the kids, Tuesday night went out to bring them in for the night like we normally do and found one in shock and rushed to the vets, but sad to say he died a couple of hours later.
The advise i am after is:
kids are obviously upset and miss him like mad, but i also think, so does his brother, So was wondering is it possible to put another male rabbit in with him or will they fight. The rabbit we have is 9 weeks old and was thinking of getting another baby rabbit and possibly a different breed. Or is this not adviseable.
Please let me know your views and experience.
Thank you.
hmmm if they dont fight now then they are highly likely to fight as adults...your best bet is a neutered female tbh...not sure what you could do in the mean time...sure someone with more experience of neutred rabbits will be along soon

two males will almost certainly fight, whether from the same litter or not, when they
become sexually mature which i believe could be from approx 3 months upwards..

Please please please do not get another male bunny - they will fight. Whoever sold you the two brothers should have explained that they would also fight once 3-4 months old. Rabbits like company but the only fight free way to keep them together is one male, one female.....both neutered. The only thing I can think of is either get a female, keep them appart until both being neutered...or perhaps get an older female (perhaps a rescue one??) who has already been neutered and then get the male done as soon as he starts showing an interest. You could also go down the 'pets at home' route of getting a gunea pig to keep with him but I personally wouldn't recommend it. (you would still need to get the male neutered)

Depending on who you speak to, people have had different experiences with their rabbits, i thought that having 2 brothers wouldn't be a problem. I have in past had 2 sisters and they got on absoulutely fine, they never fought, yet speaking to others they have said they have experienced that 2 females fight and wouldn't advise keeping them together. Plus before buying the 2 brothers i had been to Pets at Home and they said males have better temperaments than females and there shouldn't be a problem keeping 2 together, but did advise having them neutered when old enough, and Pets at Home do not advise keeping Rabbits and Guinnea pigs together, if anything they are against it.
No, two male rabbits will fight! Pets at home are wrong! Under no circumstances should male rabbits be kept together! Click on any rabbit forum or rabbit rescue place or phone the rspca - they will tell you the same thing. They may be against keeping rabbits and guinnea pigs apart - that part is correct, but the rest is rubbish!
I agree with everyone on the fighting thing. I have always had a neutered buck with a neutered Doe which is a great combination and they bond well. Mixed breeds together are fine as long as you get the same size, so dont put a Giant in with a Dwarf Breed for obvious reasons. Under no circumstances put a Guinea Pig in with him, contrary to popular belief they do not make good companions and have different dietary needs.
If and when you do introduce another rabbit, make sure that they are on neutral ground. I have never had any problems introducing Does to Bucks but would never attempt to introduce two Bucks.

We have several male pairs that board with us but they are not from the same litter and the owners experiences of bonding them was not one I would have relished. I would definitely consider a spayed female from a resuce as a new partner. B.A.R.C have several looking for homes and they can even do the bonding for you.

hmmmmmm the rabit/guinea pig thing is new to me. I had rabbits growing up and always kept rabbits/gunea pigs togeter with no problems my last rabbits lived to 11 and 10 and the guinea pig to 10 and all lived happily in a huge hutch. The rabbits were both female and unnutured but I did them them all at pretty much the same time as babies so maybe that has something to do with it.
I know pets at home are against this as when my sis bought her rabbit and guinea pig they advised her to get a seperate hutch for them, as the rabbit got bigger they could kick out and kill the guinea pig.
A spayed female would definatly seem best especially as they are young/have been with other rabbits. I would get one soon while your rabbit is young as it will help him adjust.
