I was at Shireoaks Marina the other week so I rattled a few shots off.
It was a spectactularly dull day and I ended up with some really bland pictures.

All a bit disappointing really. Anyway, as I have been trying to unravel the mysteries of Photoshop, I though I'd experiment with these 2 shots.

In the first I have tried to capture all the bright colours of the canal boats.

In the second I have tried to capture the feeling of a bygone age.

Please feel free to comment. (It helps me to learn)

In the first shot, I'd try try to isolate the water and sky so you could lighten and saturate just the boats, their shadows and perhaps the background landscape? Shouldn't be too too difficult with the magic wand tool on the water and sky, then invert the selection and maybe feather it by 3 pixels or so.

The sepia toning of the second shot works very well. Did you do anything else to give it an olde worlde feel?

Thanks for the comments Imp.
In the second shot I cloned out lamp posts, tv aeriels, satellite dishes etc, and applied a very light dry brush artistic filter.

That's just down the road from us :-)
Sepia is an improvement on the colour version. An extra step would be to add a ragged edge like this (http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Create-a-ragged-border)
