Does anyone know of a good driving range where you can hit the ball off of grass/turf. I've been to Moorview many times but would also like to find somewhere with grass hitting areas for practicing iron shots. The mats are not great for this. Thanks.

there are hardly any driving ranges in sheffield
msot of the golf courses dont have them
I havn't heard of any that have grass surface's - your better off just going to the pitch and putt near endcliffe park.
There are parks where you can take your pitching wedge and half a dozen balls to knock around for practice - so long as there aren't any signs saying otherwise and you take care to stop when anyone comes by walking their dogs ... You also get the opportunity to pace out your shot distance, which you can't do at the range (I don't trust those distance markers!).
I know it's not the same, but you don't have to use the rubber tees at the driving range - you can play off the mats even with your driver - but don't hit the mat hard, you'll damage your clubs - I sent a driver head half way down the range doing this once!
Some golf courses have practice areas as well as driving ranges. I haven't found one in Sheffield but I have used them in Chesterfield and Leeds (at no charge!).
