I've been working on a paper for awhile on the old 2003 Word program...then I saved it, and worked on it for awhile somewhere else using word 2007...and now i tried to open it back up with 2003 and it won't open up. I realize i'm probably out of luck, at least with the 2003 program. Would saving it under RTF prevent this from happening?
By default office 2007 saves files using a new format. Install this from Microsoft and all will be well:

I thought you could just go back into office 2007 and save the file as a '.doc. instead of a .docx file. whichever is easiest...
Yes you can, but he said he worked on it "somewhere else" so I was assuming this somewhere else was not accessible right now. Otherwise he would have just opened with Office 2007 again.

Sorry, to be quite honest I'm fairly p****ed! Go with carlings advice!
Ditch Office and use openoffice ?? , as i understand with a little file re-naming MO2007 files can be opened in Open office.
Why people tolerate MS's bull is beyond me !!

Go back onto 2007 Word, open the document, click on save as and then save it as a '97 - 2003 document. This choice will appear either at side of save as box or in a drop down box. Now you can access it from Word 2003.
