View Full Version : Egg ruined my night!!
clairerob 28-05-2005, 21:01 Can you believe it.... I had just been to Jumbo buffet down town. Me and my partner were walking up the hill towards our car and a black BMW slowed down, but we didn'nt think anything of it untill I was hit by an egg!!!!!
He slowed right down put some real power into it and smacked it right on my ribs. He was so close to me aswell.
My partner said he saw these big asians laughing in the car!!
I couldn't believe it. I haven't been out for about 2 years because I am very paranoid person and feel very unsafe going out and this just prooves that I should just stay in.
I have a massive red mark on my back now that is bruising. At first I thought it was a big rock but then I thought I had maybe been shot because I was so shocked and in alot of pain. But then obviously I saw the cracked egg on the floor.
I was shaking like crazy.
What kind of idiots go out to do that. They have nothing better to do with their time. What Idiots!!!
Thank god it wasn't anything worse than an egg!!!
LittlestLass 28-05-2005, 21:13 That's terrible. I can't believe that happened to you. I really hope that doesn't put you off going out again, because I've never had anything like that happen in Sheffield.
A girl randomly spat at me in Nottingham once, but that's a different story....

Come on hon, think about it rationally. It's just bad luck; this kind of thing (unpleasant as it may be) is just a practical joke. I'd be really miffed if it was me it had happened to, but don't let it stop you from doing what you want to do. Life's too short to be scared of enjoying ourselves!
Get some rest, and let us know how you are in the morning; well done on getting out tonight!

clairerob 28-05-2005, 21:27 Yeh good point!
Im ok now. I was just really shook up. Because I come from a really tiny village and moved here about 3 years ago . I have only been out once really since being here. Because I find big cities really scary! HEHE.
I am such a jumpy person as it is. If I see a scary face on tv ...thats it. I have nightmares for days. Im such a scared person so thats the last thing I need to happen.
Im just glad it didn't happen to somebody who was pregnant and they hit it on the baby or a child.
We have had trouble with asians before but that is a different story ( sitting in our car trying to get out after paying our petrol then they all started crowding round ).
I was never racist when I moved here but I have had nothing but trouble with them!!! Im sorry If i have offended anybody. I really am but this is how I feel.
clairerob 28-05-2005, 21:29 Thankyou Kristian . I know it aint bad,. Now I have calmed down. But it was the fact that they do this thing for a life. I just hate people who have nothing to do apart from do this or rape or anything. There just sick the lot of them.
I dont like going out anyway but this has just made it worse a little bit. I probably will go back out just probably not for a while.

This type of attack known as 'Egging' has become very prevalent in the Sheffield area in recent times especially if you travel by bus as the dissaffected youths who carry out these attacks see a bus coming and if they dont have their eggs to throw they scrabble around trying to find anything to throw.
I got "egged" :) about 5 years ago at first I was really mad but then just ended up laughing at the fact I was walking home with my jeans covered in egg yolk
Its not happened since I would'nt worry about it
LordChaverly 28-05-2005, 22:28 This happened to me about two weeks ago. I was on a bus travelling down London road, sitting next to the window, when there was a huge thud against the window pane. It was definitely a brick or stone. I saw a group of youths running off. Luckily, the window did not break, otherwise I could easily have been blinded. Someone is going to get seriously hurt in one of these incidents.

Hey there sweetie. It might be the last thing you would want to do right now, but if I were you I'd make a point of going out again tomorrow night just to say 'Boo-sucks' to these people.
Hope you are OK.
(Most of us living in this city are nice, normal, happy people).
wow, i've never had anything like this happen to me (yet) :o
But don't take it personally, whatever you do. It was random and could have happened to anyone. It is so unfortunate that it happened to you when you are really nervous anyway.
I don't go out up town very often and I think if this sort of thing happened to me I would be really upset at first, but thinking about it rationally, they are just really sad people with nothing better to do. Shame they can't think of anything better to do with their time.
Get yourself out again as soon as you can because the longer you leave it the worse it will get. Why not come on a Forum meet? Sundays in the Devonshire Cat, Wednesdays in Trippets? Check the going out section to find out who is meeting where - we are all a really lovely bunch so you'll feel right at home in no time

Thank god it wasn't anything worse than an egg!!! sorry something like this has happened to you, i have not experienced it but i know if i did i would be really annoyed!
did you not get the registration number of the car and report them to the police?
clairerob 29-05-2005, 10:02 Thankyou for all your comments everybody. Your such a lovely bunch. I can laugh at it now really. I didn't mind the getting egged bit it was the fact that they really threw it hard. I have quite a bad bruise on ribs bit now. It just hurt more then anything.
I did try to get the registration number but they sped off to fast after they had done it.
I was in to much of a shock wondering what had happened before I even thought of getting the registration plate details, by then it was too late.
Thankyou for all your comments xxx.
miniminch 29-05-2005, 10:38 Claire I hope you've 'hatched' a plot to get these ******** back. It's no 'yolk' when this happens especially when it's non'whites' throwing them. If i were you i'd 'scramble' the little swines who have probably 'poached' the idea off someone else. It they were asian ,as you pointed out, they are probably Hendu's with a 'poultry' sense of humour. I would consider an eggsray down at the hallamshire!
I hope this helps. Don't let it worry you and remember the fact that they threw it out of a car would indicate that they are probably 'chickens':D
Pete1024 29-05-2005, 12:46 I got egged once, its always a w*nker in a BMW 3 series.

If you see a blue BMW convertable near GQ marketing (above RBS) egg it for me!
A few years ago down south on holiday when someone threw a pork pie at my wife from a passing car. Very disappointed in her she missed an ideal opportunity to bring it down on her chest and wack it back with a right foot drive.
clairerob 29-05-2005, 14:16 I was a bit "shell" shocked but at least i wasnt wearing my fave "shellsuit". hehehe :hihi:
Ooh Clairerob - read back thru your messages hun - your 'progress' in coming to terms with this is evident as the time has progressed. Well done!
Like everyone else who has said the same.............most of us in Sheffield aren't like the idiots who chucked the egg at you, and I doubt very much it will ever happen to you again.
They didn't mean for you to be affected by it, and stay in for weeks because of it. It was done thoughtlessly by mindless wombats, lasted a few seconds and that was it - for them.
I'm so glad you're not letting it affect you for any longer than the bare minimum necessary to get over it.
Onwards and upwards, girl!
PS when I saw the title of the thread I thought you were going to complain because your Egg credit card had been refused somewhere! LOL....
clairerob 29-05-2005, 14:35 Hehehehe SHsheff. :hihi:
I thought that people would think I got food poisening from an egg or something hehe.
Heheh now that would have been something else.....a bit like....heel coming off ruined my night! or .........pint of lager ruined my dress!......row with boyfriend ruined my night! or..... rain made my mascara run!......... Not that I'm trivialising egg-poisoning. Please no-one come after me for that.....
But hey - we're so supportive on here that if you had posted any of the above, there'd have been loads of suggestions for stomach pumpers and drips, waterproof mascara, dry cleaners, marriage guidance, shoe repairers etc. I can't think of anything trivial (or major) enough that no-one on the forum would have said anything.
Even...forgetting my lip gloss ruined my night! - someone would have offered to meet up with you to share....
What more can I say? You've found the forum! There is nothing that can't be solved (after the event).
The main thing of course, is that you have (seemingly) recovered from the egg incident. Good on ya!

These people may see it as a bit of a laugh but you should go to your local police station and have it registered as a racial incident as no doubt it would be if you assaulted an Asian.
Word of advice,
Always carry a spare egg in your bag/pocket "just in case". Hard boiled would be better.
I got egged in Hull by a couple of Asian Kids on bicycles. Now I know what they do now
i wish i had been there, i would of laughed my ass off!!!!!!!!
your lucky it was "them" asians
and not "them" whites because they usually throw rocks

davididreal 30-05-2005, 15:08 Claire - Sorry to hear you got egged by some idiots, and that you have had trouble with Asians in the past. You must remember just like the baseall cap and hoodie wearers, it is the minority that tend to make the majority look bad (no I am not Asian, nor do I wear hoodies or baseball caps anymore!, before anyone asks!)
More IMPORTANTLY though -
1. Sheffield has spent hundreds of thousands on CCTV, so the car if not the incident may well be 'on camera'.
2. What happened has caused injury and as such should be reported to the Police who should be under an obligation to at least look into it, especially since you can only buy eggs in boxes - so the chances are your not the only one. The Police may have had other reports with a registration number, or may even have caught these idiots in the act in which case you reporting what happened might just prompt them into doing something for a change.
3. If you have access to a digital camera take some photos before the bruising goes down - you never know.
I hope I don't sound too boring suggesting all this but you never know they might be caught and lets face it a bit higher and an egg thrown that hard could take an eye out next time.
crowefan 30-05-2005, 15:59 I had a collegue that was a cliff richard fan
they ( around 30) middle aged women were camped out for tickets to his concert and were pelted with empty beer cans and scotch eggs!!!
I must admit I did laugh when she told me, really only because the girls stood their ground formed a safety cordon ( small weak ones in the middle) and like Russell Crowe in gladiator, started to lob the missiles back
hey ho
clairerob 30-05-2005, 16:58 Whatever you say, Zozzer or whatever your name is!!!!!!!
HAHAHA!
that story of you getting egged made my day. it was my friend who sent me an email who told me about the story.
i wish id seen it happen lol
nearly had egg on your face!
heheheh
you shouldnt worry about it anyway its funny, i mean come on.
clairerob 30-05-2005, 18:39 No it wasn't funny at the time but obviously I see that now. Anyway... the joke is on them because I didn't get a drip off egg on me. haha. Just shows you what kind of imature idiots there are in the world. Also the people that think it's funny as soon as they read it are obviously the same. I mean... what kind of decent person would see that attacking other people in the streets with eggs is a nice and funny thing to do. Obvioulsy just a waste of time as the people who do this kind of stuff

Wait a minute poirot if this does go to court and the egg assailant gets legal aid and then the police review all the CCTV footage and have to use it in their prosecution. It could cost thousands and do you know who is gunna pay for your eggstatic courtroom drama. You and me – don’t you think we pay enough taxes already without wanting to waste more on the trial of the century. I think she’s got over it already. Can we all move on. No harm done really. It was only an egg.:loopy:

xx_lou_xx 30-05-2005, 23:28 The other day, i heard from a friend, that some lads in a black car pulled up beside a woman on her way to work, and threw some kind of white powder all over her, her throats apparently all burnt from it.
That was somewhere near Shiregreen i think.
Its really worrying, that u could just be walking, n some idiots find it funny to do something like that.
Geordiecarl 31-05-2005, 14:06 now lets not egg-agerate about the whole situation! There is gun warfare about nowadays!!!
An egg is nothing too bad, although it did shock you. We used to do it as kids but in sheffield we used savoury eggs and werent very accurate!
lazyfish 31-05-2005, 14:14 I had a fishcake thrown at me by some Northampton Town fans in 1998. Damn those white people. I'm over it now though.

A SHEFFIELD FISH CAKE ? I would have picked that sucker up and eaten right away !
clairerob 31-05-2005, 15:54 People always make it sound as though I am going on about how horrible it was. I know it's only an egg as everybody keeps saying. I just wanted to share on the forum what happened and how people think that kind of thing is funny when it isn't. It is as it is just silly and immature. But whatever turns them on as they say!!
Someone tried this with a mate of mine in London, they threw chips at him (and shouted some not very nice things) then sped off laughing, unfortunately the lights changed to red and they got stuck in the traffic :)
He ran after the car and managed to put the drivers window through (steel toecaps can tend to do that), they looked quite terrified he said.
Then he legged it into the underground while they were still stuck in the traffic.
clairerob 31-05-2005, 16:04 Hahahahahaa nick. That is soo funny. I would of loved to have seen that. Bet they weren't laughing then!! Good on him I say!! x
irenewilde 31-05-2005, 16:12 It shakes you up when someone does something like that to you, no matter how much confidence you have. I can't imagine ever laughing at it - being hit by a missile and having egg all over your clothes. It's happened to me in the past too, but that was down in London. You've been unlucky, but as other people have said, try not to let it scare you off going out again.
And if Zozzer and alpal have nothing better to say, then I suggest they sod off and keep out of it. Aggressive posts like "I wish I was there and I would have laughed at you" just make it look as though there are even more brainless idiots around........
clairerob 31-05-2005, 17:22 Well sad! Fantastic Irenewilde. I wanted to say that myself but I didn't bother. They are obviously just the same as the people who did this in the first place!
Thankyou Irene x

It was not an aggressive post I was being honest. Even the victim has admitted she now can see the funny side now.
This forum is for everyone and anyone, if this topic had 20 messages of sympathy and support it would be very boring.
It would have been interesting if Clairerob had mentioned in the topic what had prevented her going out for 2 years, with some background information I may have been more supportive.
I do think that the people who threw the egg where idiots. However, I think it was a random act that could have happened to anyone, I hope it doesn’t put clairerob off going out in future because I would of thought the chances of something like this happening again would be very slim.
So I don’t think I will "sod off", I’ll continue posting as and when I like.
irenewilde 31-05-2005, 20:53 O.K. so you're standing in the middle of the pavement and someone has just chucked an egg at you. Do you think someone laughing at you is going to make you feel better? I think Clairerob's answer to my message tells you the answer to that. And no, I don't think 20 messages of sympathy and support would have been boring, I think they would have made her realise there are people out there who have sympathy for other's misfortune instead of laughing at it. There's a bit too much laughing and ridiculing of other people.....maybe it's because there's so much on TV it makes it looks acceptable.
If people where laughing at me then I would probably be laughing along with them.
I can understand some people would be upset or angry, but I think I would find laughing would make me feel better.
And your right there is too much of it on tv.

this thread reminds we of that shakespeare play... err ... oh yes .... Much Ado About Nothing! Sounds more to me like a serious offence has taken place and that because the missile thrown was an egg the whole thing's being mocked.
To me it seems simple. The occupents of the car carried out a criminal offence by deliberately throwing an object from the vehicle at a pedestrian.
Luckily on this occasion the person who was hit was not seriously injured, but this could have been a lot more serious.
I think that the victim here has a right to feel upset about being attacked in this way. To the occupants of the car it may have been a joke, but something like this can kill or cause serious injury to someone.
Fair enough, the fact an egg was used is making people think light of the incident, but it's not a laughing matter really. It's just a shame that the victim was unable to get the registration number of the vehicle that was used.
If anyone else is hit in this way by a missile thrown from a car then I suggest you take the registration down and report it. There's a good chance that if they've been out doing this for a while there are others that can back up your report and give the Police more to act on.
The same thing happend to me an egg thrown from a white corsa . They thaught they had got away with it. I did reoprt it to the police and I did have the registration. I don't know if anything ever came of it.
BasilRathbon 20-06-2006, 11:27 I was once sh*t on by a pigeon. It was really frightening - I was so traumatised I didn't go out for ten years and even now i have to have counselling once a fortnight. Even when i watch tv i keep seeing scary pigeon faces coming outr of the screen - and sometimes the tv isn't even switched on!
What's even more upsetting is that, to the best of my knowledge, the pigeon responsible has never been found or punished. I still shudder to think that it's somewhere around, attacking innocent strangers at random.....
Wife once had a pork pie thrown at her from a passing car. Bit disappointed that she didn't bring it down and right foot volley it back.
Well,
It's nice to see some many of the forumers think this is funny but I think that this sort of caper should clamped down on. My dad had an egg thown at him whilst out jogging. Unfortunately, it caught him in the face and caused a massive black eye. If the perp had caused this by punching him it would be classed as ABH. The method of the attack is irrelavent.
Just been chatting on-line to my son who tells me that he too was "egged" as you call it, the other night.
I hadn't realised it was a common hobby until I read this. The thing is, with him, he is in Japan and holds a Black Belt 10th Dan(shidoshi) in Ninjutsu. If it can happen to him it can happen to anyone.....what is wrong with these people.:loopy:
Someone said on here that it's "only" and egg. I have always remembered being told as a youngster that if a penny was to be dropped from the top of Blackpool Tower and it hit someone, it would kill them. Probably someone would have said then "it was only a penny".
yer_get_meh 20-06-2006, 13:25 to all the ********s who think this was funny, what if it hit her in the eye and caused permanent damage..though judging by your reaction you are probably all immature enough to laugh at that as well....hope you get some next time your out

perhaps if it was a white person doing this to a asian the pc brigade would be calling it a racist atack i hope the girl involved made a note of the car number plate and reported them to the police.
Don_Kiddick 20-06-2006, 17:00 An appalling assault!
Report the B'stards.

I took Kristian's point to be more encouraging than dismissive. Rather than saying it was just a laugh (unpleasant was the word he used), he was trying to help clairerob overcome her (understandable) fear of going back out again.
nightrider 20-06-2006, 17:59 Can you believe it....
Unfortunatly a lot of idiots do that. I had a beer bottle thrown at me from a speeding car a few years ago. Luckily it hit the ground and smashed there and not on my head.
1Man&hisBMW 20-06-2006, 18:17 Luckily, the window did not break, otherwise I could easily have been blinded. Someone is going to get seriously hurt in one of these incidents.
Unlikely LC, they are laminated glass so wouldn't shatter in your face. Public safety and all that....
lorientgirl 20-06-2006, 18:38 Someone once told me that the best revenge is to live well, so don't let is stop you doing anything you want to do , otherwise "they" win
I've been hit by flying eggs twice and both times they didn't break. There's some crap throwers out there. :hihi:
coyote13 30-11-2006, 19:47 Come on hon, think about it rationally.
K x
Practical joke? Sounds like assault to me.
Good to see the moderators here are such 'upstanding citizens'.
coyote13 30-11-2006, 19:53 It was not an aggressive post I was being honest.
So I don’t think I will "sod off", I’ll continue posting as and when I like.
not so much 'sod off' as saddo! I look forward to seeing more of your inane posts.
Claire, have you reported this to the police? There are cameras which may have caught what sounds like a 'racist' attack. You really should report it.

She probably did back in May when this thread was first started.

Er, it was the May before that (2005)
Pingpang 30-11-2006, 20:43 Hehehehe SHsheff. :hihi:
I thought that people would think I got food poisening from an egg or something hehe.
lol i thought maybe u'd eaten egg b4hand and had had an evening marred by putrid farts!
at least u were on ur way home, anyhoo
Even though it was in May 2005. I'm glad that the OP can laugh about it. I can't believe how hard that egg hit her. It's hard enough to cause a bruise.
Those lads are pratts. You can actually phone a non-emergency phone number to record such incidences.
Talking of pratts, I was also on a bus earlier this year, when some lads throw a tub of baked beans or some kind of sauce in a tub right at a moving bus ! Everyone on the bus was so disgusted at them. I'm surprised the bus driver did not stop the bus and give them a good earful.
