Went to Hanrahans for the first time last night for a mates birthday meal. I was under the impression it did good food until I actually tasted some - it was pathetic. The steak was possibly the worst cut of meat I've ever seen, the chips were straight from Netto and the salad was none existent. Only the prawns looked and tasted like what they should. The ultimate combo starter was just as bad. Wasn't just me either - gf had bangers and mash and she reckons she's had better smash and the sausagers were virtually solid.

Waste of money and a crap atmosphere - is it just me, did we catch them on a bad night or what? I've had better quality at 2 for a fiver pubs.

expensive, ponsey, full off idiot wannabees and completely and utterly average.

For some reason I think this place sucks... I don't know why. Just has no atmosphere... I'm a student tho.

I really like Hanrahan's.

Used to go there a lot when it was Casa (before it changed to Hanrahan's which it was before it was Casa). Are you with me?

They did wicked cocktails and it was a friendly and relaxing place to be.

Haven't been there much recently although I do like the no smoking thing, and the sitting out in the neat garden at the front thing.

I had a friend that worked there for a while. He got annoyed because at the weekends the customers tended to be the 'we can be as rude as we like to you because we earn lots of money' types.

Many years ago it was a great place to be, but now, to say it's

is an insult to anywhere that is actually full.

albeit smoke-free, so it gets my custom for that reason alone.

And if you think Hanrahan's is expensive, you want to ask yourself whether you should be in there in the first place.

Eaten many a time in there. No complaints whatsoever.

It's not particularly expensive it's just not very good. Costs about the same as places like TGI Fridays and all the other American diner type places expect their food tastes better :)

Food was disappointing when we last went a month ago. But wouldn't stop me having a lovely large glass of wine there. Then again it would have to be hell of a pit for that to happen...:)

I have been to Hanrahans quite a few times and I have found a lot of their food to be really nice.

To be honest, if you like places liks TGI's etc. then maybe Hanrahans isn't the type place you are looking for?

I like TGI's, but then I also like Crystal. I'm confused, which one of your pigeonholes would I fit into?

Its a pub/bar directly across the road from the Hallamshire Hospital.

People can look out of the windows from their wards and gaze longingly at the people sitting in the front garden drinking...wishing they were there...well, I did

I was merely saying that if they liked a lot of that kind of food then maybe Hanrahans wasn't their cup of tea.

Yes but it was orginally Hanrahans before it became BarCasa.

Basically they have ruined it. It was THE place to be in the 80's (when I was a *ahem* child bride) but it's lost its way a bit now...

Hanarahans used to be fantastic.. as MsB says the place to be in the 80's. Its always been a bit on the pricey side but kept out the riff raff ( waits for the bottles to be thrown for the snobby comment LOL).

The food used to be great too and was very good value for money. The restaurant manager then was a guy called Stuart has now moved to Champs on Ecclesall Road which does kinda TGI food but less expensive.

did visit when it was Casa but I didnt think it had any atmosphere.

Bring back the old decor (flock of seaguls for the wall). they were great.

I don't think it's no smoking any more, is it? Well, there were people smoking inside last time I was there... maybe a month or so ago? Never tried the food, but the beer certainly sucks... just the usual suspects, nothing much interesting.

Ive been there a few times and the food has always been good. Nice not to choke to death from smoke and get lung cancer whilst eating.

You are allowed to smoke in the bar again but not the restaurant.

But why did they need to change the rule?

Profits I guess.
The place has just been taken over by another large pub company and they have changed it back.

I like lots of places - I was merely using TGI's as an example as lots of people on here look down their nose at it :)

As a wine bar and restaraunt I found Hanrahans pretty poor - the place has no atmosphere.
