View Full Version : Digital Camera problem, help required
I have a samsung Digimax 200.
I have never had any problems with it until now (I know it's old).
I'm trying to download some pictures as usual and when I switch it on, instead of it automatically downloading them a little icon pops up saying "safely remove hardware".
What is wrong? When I click on that it says " USB mass sorage device at location 0"
I can then click to unplug or remove it???????????
Why won't it work as usual?

Why won't it work as usual? Open 'My Computer' and you'll find your camera there as an extra storage device (UMS), go in it and cut paste your photos/vids to your desired location, and job's a gudden and Bob's your uncle.
Once you've finshed, double click on the green two arrowed icon to safely unplug your camera... Or do what I do and just unplug and wait for the annoying message :d

Why won't it work as usual? The "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is for when you want to disconnect your camera from your pc....if you connect a USB storage device, e.g. a memory stick or a camera, that icon will pop up in your system tray if you're running on XP. It's nothing to worry about, but you should click on it before you disconnect your camera, or whatever, from your pc.
You should be able to upload your pics from your camera in the usual way.

It's showing as removable disk F?? It's never done this before.
I've managed to save the pictures like that though, although it took longer than normal.
What has changed?
Also, recently, the red in the pictures is VERY red. How do I change that. It must be the camera as i have not changed anything. Is it time for a new one???
Your camera would have always shown as a removable disk when it was connected....you will find when it's disconnected from the pc, you won't be able to access Drive F.
As for the colour change....it could be that you need a new camera, or it could be the settings on your monitor need adjusting. The only way, I think, to find out is to print one of the pics which is showing the colour change, and see whether it prints in the same way. If they do, then it's your camera that's at fault; if it prints the way you would like it to, then it's probably your monitor settings that need changing.
Have you changed any settings on your pc recently, or even your pc or monitor?

It prints very red too. I just don't understand why when I connect the camera it has stopped opening the download box instantly, and now I have to manually find the removable disk and download. haven't changed anything on my pc either. I never had the "safely remove" icon before, just needed to switch camera off. Perhaps after 4 years of use it's giving up the ghost.

What has changed?Nothing all is normal... If you plug in a media drive in your PC it shows up as a UMS (storage device).
It's all good, I'd be happy it's now working properly rather than not, I mean like a Windows PC working properly, what next ? efficiency ?
My Canon had a similar freak-out once - wouldn't launch it's own software.
Have you tried turning everything off, replacing the camera batteries then going again?
Not sure about the 'red' issue though :(
PS - a new camera will probably have a much higher resolution for a much more reasonable price now
