Living alot of my life in that place that got automatic promotion cos we was good and won the league, I have searched all Sheffield, wet fish shops, supermarkets, and approached men in vans from Hull, no not for that please, have some decorum, to get a supply of Huss.

It is a sea fish also known as rock salmon, and I believe Guarnard and also dogfish, or is it catfish? Anyway I cant get any.

As I say I have tried all the wet fish shops and suppliers in yellow pages and on Yell O in the area.

Any ideas where to try next?

I think Rock Salmon like Coley all goes into catfood these days, - there's no call for it since Nulabour abolished poverty :D

Used to prefer Coley to Cod...but haven't seen it for ages.

Greybeard, on my search for Rock Salmon, I have seen coley. If I could remember where I'd tell you. That's what I need Rock for, its good for the brain, or so they say.

If I see it anywhere be sure I will let you know.

Don't know about Rock Salmon, but you can get boxes of four frozen Coley steaks in Tesco - very handy for making cheaper versions of some of Rick Stein's recipes.

I assume you've tried the fishmongers stalls in the Sheaf Markets?

They seem to have some varied produce on there.

Is Huss that thing that looks like a skinned snake?

If so they sell it at the big Tesco on Abbeydale Road.

Huss = Rock Salmon = Dogfish.

Ask for 'Scarborough Woof' in either Castle Market or Crystal Peaks.
They don't always have it but we get it at least once a month. Very tasty!

Not sure if these have it, but have you tried J.H Mann Ltd on Hillsborough Road?

I've seen all the fish mentioned in Tesco on Abbeydale road at one time or another but I'm not sure they stock them now. I suspect they didn't sell too well so were probably discontinued. You could try asking the fish monger, perhaps they can order it in especially for you.

Recently popped into the excellent Horace Boldock wet fish shop on Woodseats High Street, as I do regularly. I always have some kind of question because the guy there knows infinitely more about fish than I do. This time was: "I need a fish that might grill nicely, or bake/steam on top of some vegetables. Or in fact go in a curry." Was having a rather indecisive day. Anyway, the fellow's reply was simply "woof!" He was no as I assumed barking, but actually selling me Scarborough Woof. A most excellent fish.

Anyway, the point is really that this fish shop is one of the best I have ever encountered, and I hunt them out as someone who cooks a great deal of fish. Ask the man for something and if he hasn't got it he'll sell you the best alternative, then endeavour to get you the thing you were after next time. He also does game, poultry and free-range eggs. He's rather like Oddbins but for eatables.

Would reiterate everything said about Horace Boldock in Woodseats, always wonderful service, fantastic fish if he hasn't got it then he can usually source.

Always a pleasure to shop there by contrast with the clowns that masquerade as fishmongers at Tesco on abbeydale road. I was once served there by someone in full garb who didn't know how to fillet a white fish!

Talking of Tescos it reminds me of a mate of mine who popped into Tescos in Manchester and enquired with the spotty youth serving at the fish counter if the Tuna was local. The youth actually went into the back to ask:P

And before anyone jumps in I'm well aware of Scarborough's Tuna fishing industry in the early 1900's.
