View Full Version : Where do Eastenders get their cast from?
pinklady 17-11-2008, 21:07 Ive just switched over for the first time in months and i just cant believe how ugly, hard faced and horrid the cast/characters are.
it looks like prisoner cell block H mixed meets aufedersein pet
cressida 17-11-2008, 21:09 there are some 'alarmers' out every day when I go shopping (someone else's description) perhaps all the good-lookers go out in the evening
old barrels the scraping of :)
The Watcher 17-11-2008, 21:12 Using the word 'actors' is stretching it a bit too.
It also has the most unrealisitc stories since the bible.
(just realised no ones used the word actors on here yet but you get my meaning)

Likewise, I saw half an episode at the weekend for the first time in years and had exactly the same thought.
But...though I hate Eastenders, I also hate things like "Hollyoaks" which I am convinced is some kind of fashion-nazi type settlement where anyone who doesn't meet certain photogenic standards is locked away or exterminated.
dynamick 17-11-2008, 21:18 It might shock some people.....but not everyone is beautiful.....AND....Eastenders ISN'T Real!:o
Perhaps Eastenders isn't a perfect portrayal of East End life....but I suppose the beautiful people of Emmerdale:huh: reflect life in farming village pretty accurately....:hihi:

I knew someone would make that point, but in corrie/emmerdale ect ... they are portraying normal everyday people unlike eastenders where every character acts like their a super model, adonis, hard man/woman, mini mafia etc
edited to say : ... also every character has a deep dark secret just waiting to come out, the women eith give smug looks, evil stares or pouts whereas the males just grunt from under brooding eyebrows .... Its just SOOOO bad, how the heck do they manage to win award ceremonys for such a dire soap? It makes sunset beach look like an oscar winner :hihi:
In the early days of 'Enders, they were all kids who'd been in Grange Hill.
Nowadays they'll cast anybody, even ex The Bill stars including 2 former CID Detective Sergeants.

There's about 2 women I "would" in Emmerdale, Chas Dingle and Jo Sugden... Most of the women in Eastenders (not that I ever watch it apart from the Sunday Omnibus, and even then only cos there's nowt else on) are fugly.
Artifice 17-11-2008, 21:39 Sarcastic report in The Daily Mash:-
THE BBC last night dismissed criticism of Eastenders, insisting it was tackling the vitally important issue of beating Coronation Street.
Betty Williams says push-up bras are 'a bother'The Cockney soap has been under fire from tens of viewers for depicting a sixteen year-old actress, with 19 year-old attitudes and a 21 year-old chest.
A BBC spokesman said: "As a public service broadcaster we have a responsibility to tackle the serious issues that titillate our society.
"But we always try to handle these issues sensitively, often by covering them in lipstick or stuffing them into a push-up bra.
"Coronation Street meanwhile is just a lot of saggy women with too much make-up, and their pathetic attempts to pay off their bingo debts.
"How is that relevant to a society struggling to cope with millions of ex-convicts taking advantage of their busty teenage stepdaughters?"
The spokesman added: "Ultimately, the really important question raised by this storyline is - how on earth will Bianca react? I'm betting she goes ape****."
But Hilary Bamford, a complainer from Dewsbury, said: "I have never seen anything so repulsively entertaining in my life.
"By the end of it I felt as if I had been rolling around in a big bath of mud. In my underpants. With a bishop."
Tom Logan, a viewer from Nuneaton, said: "Fifteen, you say? She doesn't look fifteen. Oh I see...."

Hang on, people are COMPLAINING about a girl with big *ahem* features? :loopy:
Some people SERIOUSLY need to get out more!
But in a way they're right IMO, Eastenders IS rubbish, has been for years... At least when the Slaters or Martine McCutcheon were in it there was some totty to offset the hum drum depressing storylines.
I somehow don't see Eastenders managing the 50 years broadcasting that Corrie's done to be honest.

The 'Skippy academy of acting; but, as in the original series 'Skippy' is still the best actor.
