Ive just been googling for the mod revival band secret affair and ive noticed, theres two nationaist / bnp sites that feature them??

is there something about that band ive missed? or is it purely cos that scene was "english"?

theres an essex patriot - bnporg
and a young british nationalist site

no im not giving links
wernt alot of those bands (like the later band from the jam, style council) involved in red wedge and the anti racist groups etc?
on a quick scan through it seems to just be a run through of their history rather than actaully being about any right wing politics

I suppose that "Time for Action" song could be used by any political party :)

I never heard any other Secret Affair tracks apart from "Time For Action", which I loved - though it did contain the line "we hate the punk elite" and I was heavily into punk rock at the time. Always riled me, that line. But a great track anyway.

Just checked out their website and read:

"On September 13th Promoter Nigel McIntyre contacted us to say that "There was a problem" regarding our appearance at these gigs (but without giving any specific explanation). After a further four weeks of apparent deliberation we were finally told by the Promoter and on behalf of From The Jam that we were "no longer welcome to appear as "Special Guests" despite the fact our name had been used to advertise and sell 'From The Jam' concert tickets for over two months. Furthermore by this time it was too late for us to organize alternative end of year shows, which we had originally planned to do before From The Jam invited us to guest with them."

Maybe they're linked too heavily to nationalist groups for many people's liking. I'd be interested to know their political leanings. Not that there's anything wrong with nationalism per se, just the racism that usually comes with it.

My mate went looking for bowling shoes for her hubby and got sent through to a lot of British Nationalist sites. Think there is a right wing element to some of it.
I don't know much about secret affair unfortunately - I've heard and played their stuff, didn't know they were still going.

Weller was a Tory originally but then changed his political allegiance after a few years and then was prolific in the 80's with his associations with the red wedge stuff. He then became quite disillusioned with it all and although he'd say he's labour, I think he's mellowed in his politics from then.

I seem to remember a degree of "nationalism" about the early mod revival. Certainly where I'm from (Essex, yeah sorry!), skins and nazis would go to mod gigs.

Dunno about Secret Affair specifically, tho, never saw them.

I made a long reply to this but it disappeared so I'll be brief.
I followed Secret Affair from the start and they were never associated with any political parties least of all the National Front (who basically became the BNP), in fact Ian Page told some NF skinheads who turned up for trouble back in '79 to go somewhere else which led to them targeting the band at several gigs but finally went away to follow the Ska bands (take a guess which very well known Ska front man was a member of the National Front?)
Secret Affair are playing Ireland for the first time, Dublin March 6th & London on May 30th, 2009.
They ain't right wing facists or racists for sure...just a great band in my opinion.

I'd hazard a guess at a rather well built one. It is just a guess though. I hope it's not my sports shop monikered hero?

I know some of the guys in Secret Affair and they are very upset about how they have been treated by 'From The Jam' (just read Secret Affair's full statement on their website).
They were cold called by a certain FTJ band member and their tour promoter and offered several shows appearing as special guests and jointly advertised for 3 months in all the major national mags before being dumped (after all the tickets had been sold) - the word is that Bruce Foxton claimed he hadn't been consulted and refused to go onstage if SA were on the bill 'over his dead body' - nothing to do with politics I'm afraid just pure ego.
I hear the matter is going to court, so good luck to the boys, they were well and truly stitched up and should never have got invovled with a tribute band in the first place! Where's Weller when you need him.
