When i footnote something, the little number won't go above the word. I tried setting it to 'footnote reference' but it doesn't want to work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

You're talkinga bout Microsoft Word, I presume?

At the point where you want the figure to be, click on insert, then footnote and you will be taken to the bottom of your page where you write the actual footnote, then click back to your text and the figure should be there.

Good luck

i mean i get the little footnote number, but it appears alongside the word as opposed to above the word (where i want it to be).

I think if you centre text in the footer, you can put the number above the word....that's if that is what you want to do....I'm a bit confused really, and I use Word every day all day

EDIT:You will have to hit enter for a line space after the number, of course

right clic the tool bar at the top, choose customise, then commands, and you'll find 'em in 'format'.

Or perhaps you mean Footer and I'm totally off-topic coz that's in 'view' headers&footers.

ok....when i usually 'footnote' something, i get a number ABOVE where i clicked insert footnote and then the reference at the bottom of the page. But when i do it now, the little number appears alongisde the word e.g:

'the cat sat on the mat 1' (as opposed to the 1 being above the 'mat')

Hope i've explained it better there.

right clic the tool bar at the top, choose customise, then commands, and you'll find 'em in 'format' .

By doing that, you'll have two extra permanent icons one which puts text powered (like 2²) and the other to index text.

I think the term is "super script". Footer is something else.

Oh and btw I think Word is a very very weak application and I do just about anything to avoid using it at work.

It sounds like your Footnote Reference has lost its style.

On the Format menu, click the Style option and highlight the Footnote Reference style. The description should be Paragraph Font + Superscript. If it isn't, click Modify, then Format, then Font. Check the Superscript option there. Then Ok, Ok and Apply.

Hope that does the trick !
