It doesn't look bad
RE the 1gb + 2 gb it's not your harddrive storage space (which is at 160gb - very reasonable for most users) it's looks to be your RAM (random access memory) and I think it means it's a 3gb total of ram made up of a 1 and a 2gb memory module.
Hope this is of some help.

I think you're right - one 1GB stick and one 2GB stick. Also, the graphics spec uses "up to" 1GB - I suspect the 3GB is shared with the graphics adaptor. Basically, the "true" spec is 2GB of RAM for OS/Apps.

itll be better than your desktop id say but if you aint got money to burn id upgrade your desktops memory (give people on here like terminator and bart a shout as they usually have ram for sale) and youll notice a vast improvement in your comp and give it a new lease of life
use crucial scanner (http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=COqInPPo-pYCFQsMGgodwR3UWg) to find out what memory (probably ddr) and the max your board will take

Good advice - on top of that a fresh install of windows to boot would give you that new pc feel. (PS I noticed barts always has ram for sale :P)

Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
Available Memory Slots: 1
Number of Banks: 2
Dual Channel Support: No
CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Model 2, Stepping 9
CPU Speed: 2800 MHz

This is what the scanner has come back with and advises to up the memory to 1.5 - 2MB as suggested.
Is this an easy thing to do ? i.e take out the old memory and replace with 2 x 1MB ?

depends on the shop. Are there even shops like that anymore? I used to only trust gemsoft but now they've gone. Moonlight might be okay but I'm not talking from a proper experience. avoid crown and msot of the london road ones really. Crown tried charging me £30 for a stick of 512mb!!

Hi, There's a small shop on Shoreham street opposite Bramall Lane football ground...very friendly! They installed memory for me very cheap! Always helpful, but can't remember the name! Thanks N
