American Pie is a popular choice.

As a fair to middling guitarist, I would have thought that 'Run To The Hills', 'Living On A Prayer' and (especially) 'Beat It' are extremely difficult to render satisfactorily with an acoustic axe. If it's a really hip and swinging party, why not have a bash at 'Where Do You Go To, My Lovely'. It's lilting 6/8 rhythm and hilarious lyrics are guaranteed to thrill and amaze. I once played, oh god, what's it called? Oh yeah - 'Weather With You' at a pub half way up a hill in Teesdale one New Year's Eve, and was astonished when the entire pub chimed in en masse with the chorus. It was the nearest to feeling like a rock star I will ever get! You could try that one, too (it's a piece of p**s).

If you can manage minor seventh flattened fifths, try anything by the Ink Spots. You will be a hero. 'Substitute' by The Who is really easy and sounds great with an acoustic (since it was recorded using one, I think). In fact, I'd go for 'Substitute' - it sounds right up your street. Just in case you don't know, you can get the chords/lyrics at www.harmonycentral.com. Good Luck!

Without wishing to reveal the entire contents of my set-list, from experience I can tell you some songs that never fail to get the crowd going, particularly if it's gone past 10pm!!

House of the Rising Sun - sounds as good on acoustic and the arpegio is incredibly easy. However, remembering all the words can be a bummer and it's harder to sing than you'd imagine (starts low and ends up wailing);

Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger - never fail. You'll need your capo for the former (which reminds me, I must get my own back).

I've recently inserted two songs which have worked well. We might be bored to tears with it but Tony Christie's Amarillo is a MUST. It's incredibly easy (A, D, E to F & C) and only has two verses (which is enough for me to be able to forget). The other 'newie' is Dedicated Follower Of Fashion.

Practically any Beatles song will work - Fool On The Hill, Blackbird (drop D), Let It Be. Also, Words by the Bee Gees and a couple of Elvis songs, Suspicous Minds for example. I also play stuff like Good Year For The Roses by t' other Elvis and then there's Eric with Beautiful Tonight and - better IMO - Tears in Heaven.

The world's your oyster. Surf the web and you'll get loads of ideas for songs. Or better, go buy a huge book of Acoustic Classics and ensure the song-writers get their due monies.

And ofcause, whatever level you're at with the old geetaaar - enjoy!!

I'm not a huge fan but coldplay (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/c/coldplay/yellow_acoustic_crd.htm) yellow sound good acoustic - especially if you have someone play the lead part.

Or one of my favorite acoustic versions - nirvana doing a Bowie cover. But that is difficult to play :(

Man Who Sold The World?

That's pretty simple!

Easier than Stairway To Heaven ;)

yeah - the lead into the chorus is a bit fiddley to get rigt and even kurt says that he usually screws it up on the MTV show. It's not as hard as Stairway to heaven but it's a better song in my opinion:D

Its only a C major and an F major scale......

Surely if you find that tricky you are going to struggle as a guitar player?

It is all in F major, it just starts at two different points of the F major scale. Play it without the Bb's and you'll hear what I mean.

Surely if you don't know the key of F major has a Bb, you'll struggle as a music theorist?

(Runs for cover)...........
