I am a massage therapist and aromatherapist and I'm trying to attract more women and OAP's as I think they would benefitmore from my services. I'm trying to get away from the internet becasue the adverts just seems to attract strange men!
I'm thinking of putting flyers in local schools, nurseries, community centers and doctors with their permission of course. Do you have any other suggestions of relevant places I could try and get them displayed?
Thanks!
Erica.
What's your local? (not meaning which pub!)

Do you mean where am I? I'm based in Darnall
Have you thought of contacting WI and OAP groups directly? Perhaps you could offer to do a little talk about aroma therapy and how you got started/ trained etc. They are always on the lookout for new speakers and I'm sure you'll get lot's of interested people. and a lot of word-of-mouth business.
Same goes for setting up a small peripatetic treatment room in some of the new sheltered accommodation. They are often looking for new services to go alongside mobile hairdressers etc.
I'd suggest spending a day going to everywhere in your area - shops, schools, care homes, offices etc etc. drop in the flyers to leave in the staff room or wherever and if you get someone chatty, then tell them a little about what you do. flyers tend to get passed around by people so getting them out of your home will be more effective!
i also agree about contacting homes directly to go and perhaps do a short talk, free demos? i know again its time consuming, but it's often the personal touch (no pun intended!) that will make people comfortable with what you do. also, try contacting your local primary care trust who may be able to help.
good luck!
I was originally going to suggest having a stall inside the exit of the local supermarket which people get to look at whilst in the queue, and then offer a quick massage for mum after trudging around and don't forget to tell dad to carry the shopping.
Also offer a chrissy pressie special, 6 for the price of 4...

How about asking your local health shops, you know the ones that are like delicatessant and herbal remedy places if you could put leaflets in store.
Also how about approaching your local newsagents to see if you could get the paperboys to put leaflets in with the papers they deliver (thursday been a good day as Job paper for Sheffield Star). This would be cheaper than going direct to the newspaper to enclose your leaflet.

Good idea. In fact I might consider this myself
Hi Erica,
Well done for asking for ideas an support. I find that more and more women are doing this and finding other that are willing to help them.
Erica what is your unique selling point? what makes you different from others offering massage/aromatherapy? Do you really want to aim your services at OAP's and mums with limited disposable income. What you provide is a luxury for most people.
If you believe you are the best at what you do then look to the markets that can pay for the best out there.
If you want help and ideas, pm me and check out my website. (see signature)
