Anyone remember having to take Liquifruta - I had it regularly - it tasted of cresote and liquorice. I am still having problems with my chest so I don't think it worked!!!!

I remember the product - Liqufruta - and the trepidation for those taking it!
I seem to recall an oniony flavour but never sampled it!

dreadful stuff. my mother used to make us take it when we were kids. she believed that anything that tasted vile had to be good for you. It was full of garlic so probably was good for your circulatory system and an assortment of other conditions unrelated to coughing.

Liquifruta I remember it well if sugar, butter and vinigar didn't work then it was Liquifruta was the last resort.

If I remember correctly the bottle was that of an old medicine bottle not round, but like a flat spirit bottle it tasted vile, but it worked.
It is strange to see that name after so many years.

Strewth, I must have had gallons of the stuff poured down me when I was a kid! I've heard people say it smelled of onions, but to be honest I got to quite like the taste:gag:

Oh how i loved everything about it, and it made me better from coughs and colds in those awful winters of yrs ago.

My Mother used to make me drink it. It was bl---y vile. You could tell at school who had been dosed with it that morning. Friars Balsam was vile as well.

I recall liquifruita taking it for a cough, and indian brandy for stomach problems and
a poultice if I had a sore throat, that was bl***y horrible. Also my mum used to warm something up when I had earache, and pour it my ear don't know what that was but it hurt and when I said anything to my mum she used to say "if it hurts, its doing you good". Somehow I didn't believe her.

That would be Olive Oil. We always had a bottle of that in the house back in the fifties. It was only ever used for two things, warming up for putting in your ears for ear ache and mashing together with bananas for my Dads sandwiches for work. It stopped the banana from going brown (apparently).

They tried to get me to take some foul tasting pink stuff from the doctor for my chest but it was Owbridges or nothing.

Yeah, Liquifruta. I heard tell after a dose of that stuff the last thing you wanted to do was cough. Especialy if your bowels were on the loose side.

I absolutely hated it but I have to admit that I was given it so often that I came to like it. I probably wouldn't take it now, given a choice. It was evil stuff but I think it worked.

O m g , that stuff was horrid ,also antussin ,ive had them all due to a lot of bronchitis
and as already mentioned kaolin poultices .that were dragged off your chest in the morning ,from the night before ,and they had to be pulled off quickly so they didnt hurt ---------------------- as if ..

I was given Fammel ? It was very sticky but the taste was bad. I also had Liqufruta out of the two I preffered the Fammel. Can anyone else remember it? and were you forced to take the stuff believing that it did you good if it tasted horrible?
