fredsredhat 15-11-2008, 21:58 I've fitted a few garage doors up there, the brick is really really bad (read cheap) the houses seem to be thrown up, not built. Nothing is plumb or square, cracks in the mortar and plaster and to be honest I'm glad i live in a 19th century terrace that was built proper

i must agree very strongly with the above quote..i have worked cleaning in a couple of properties on this estate so have seen close up nooks and crannies...bad plasterwork, draining systems cheap and inadequate, fixtures and fitting cheap and show roomy(by which i mean ok to look at but not functional )
these properties really are large and very nice to look at but please do not touch...things start working loose and falling apart.one property i have worked in has had several floods due to bad plumbing and loads of electrical faults also most walls are plasterboard which means when doors are closed it it like an earth quake with the noise heard on every level of the house.... don,t do it even if they do look nice..ps no there is no trouble off winn gardens but there has been lead theft from some properties on here

Your older house will have had the same, and presumably had them filled with a bit of Pollyfilla. (Or daub considering the age of your property! :hihi:)
annb3811 15-11-2008, 23:40 Teeny-weeny gardens though!
the properties i have worked at certainly do not have teeny weeny gardens but the so called top soil is full of clay big pieces of brick and broken glass
eurotour08 16-11-2008, 03:32 My o/h used to live on there, and she used to experience all kinds of weird stuff. Like things being thrown off the top her her tv, the tv being switched on and off at random and weird noises at night.
It also backs onto a wood in some places, which means lots of creepy crawlies!

Depends on what you like.
To me the estate is a souless drab prisonlike estate. Tall fences, small gardens, 'I'm all jack, and sod anyone who lives near me' type estate.
For the same money, you could buy a beaut terrace in Crookes or Hillsbrough, a vibrant community, with shops, pubs, schools and life!.
As I said, depends on what you like. :)

dont tar us all with the same brush and as for living on here i would rather live on this council estate than any other. i no i can let my child wander round this estate and not have to worry, this is a small estate with a good community spirit can you say the same. oh and before you start with im just a council tenant im not we own our house so think before you start slagging people off. always think you are better than everyone else.

He has a point. I wouldn't want to live anywhere near people who jump down throats as fast as you do.
metalman 16-11-2008, 07:05 I'm sure some would say that parents who let their kids wander round the estate are part of the problem.
Please don't use this as a 'slag of those on the WPV' please. All areas have good and bad points, and those that 'heard from a friend' really don't count as a valid opinion. Can we keep it to the facts please?
Also, there were a few different builders involved on the site so you'll need to be a bit more specific as to which houses your talking about Ash. Although I agree they didn't use the most expensive bricks and brickies, what you said is going a bit far. Show me a 19th centry house that's plumb! :)
Seriously, some houses have been finished to a high standard because the first owners paid for upgrades. It depends on the house you're looking at, as the first one we nearly bought had one of the best kitchens I've seen.
As for a soless estate. Come on, are you saying nowhere has poeple who want to keep to themselves? The part I live on is great, we know each other and there are about 12 houses that have regular parties, always happy to talk to each other and are there when things go wrong (floods, A&E trips, baby sitting and births).
To get an idea of the scale of the community on the site, take a look at the website: http://www.wpvonline.co.uk/

dizzybird77 17-11-2008, 20:41 There are always lots of these houses for sale, to me this indicates a problem especially on a new estate.
We went to look at some houses when they were being built, the ones we looked at not only had small gardens but the houses themselves were tiny.
We could have bought a 4 bed house but really it was one decent sized bedroom and 3 box rooms, had a separate dining room that you could just fit a table in (nothing else).
And the whole estate is like a rabbit warren.
Imo you could buy a much bigger, nicer property in the surrounding areas for about the same price
coopster1974 18-11-2008, 08:15 To the OP - dont take anyones word for it from here, if you're interested, go take a look yourself.
When we were househunting, we looked at a few on here and have to agree that some of them were totally unfit for what we wanted. Eventually we found one that ticked all the boxes. As mentioned there have been numerous builders involved and hence lots of different house types.
Its the same with house hunting anywhere, not all of them will make you want them!
