Here's a really great recipe for Tofu.

Ingredients:
Tofu
Quorn mince
Tomatoes
Oregano
Onion
Courgette
Garlic
Coriander to garnish.

Take Tofu, wrap in plastic bag, place in suitable bin. Make a nice vegetarian bolognese with the rest of the ingredients. Enjoy.

Tofu = :gag:

I've not tried tofu - what does it taste like? Would I like it (?!!) like everything, there's no food I don't like really, but haven't tried this. What's it like? Do you just replace this with meat?

:hihi: Have you tried it? First time I had it I thought it was vile, but when cooked nicely (by a friend recently) it was delicious. So I've changed my mind, used to think like you!

tofu can be very bland and taste rubbish, but like bjan said, if its cooked by someone who knows what they are doing its yummy. it has to be marinated or cooked with lots of tasty things.

I'd rather push wasps up my bum than eat tofu again.

Eugh.

I'd like to see some decent recipes for tofu, mainly because I think the stuff is vile. I've never cooked it myself, and the only times I ate it was when in restaurants where the only vegetarian option was "tofu in a/b/c/x/y sauce", but I've never liked it.

It's like polystyrene.

Maybe a decent recipe could convert me

But doesn't it disintegrate if you fry it? Or do you have to deep fry it? Any tips would be welcome, as I never know what to do with the stuff.

I recently tried the Couldron marinated stuff, it's in little chunks (which aren't slimey!) and it tasted quite nice. I did a stir fry with it. Just put some peppers and brocolli in, seved with brown rice and it was quite tasty and filling. The marinade gave it some flavour :)

tofu laksa

take some thai green curry paste
fry some sliced onion in oil, use a drop of seseme too
add the paste and some peanut butter
add some chopped vegetables of your choice, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes
fry for a few minutes, add some smoked tofu, sliced
meanwhile be cooking some soba noodles in water
to your frying veg and tofu add some coconut milk
just before this is done add some pak choi - you want it to keep it crunch
add noodles to bowl and pour over the tofu and veg, sprinkle with coriander and serve!

There are different kind of tofus, with varying consistencies and hardness. (I eventually found this out too by surfing online! I did use to mess up my tofu dishes, hence I don't use it as an ingredient myself.) The softer kind is not great for frying, and even if you pan-fry it, you have to have a very hot pan, and lightly brown it, and then finish the cooking in other ways. The more hardy kind can be moved around a lot more if you are tryng to fry it.

We normally go for the softer, freshly made, kind at home. Though, I never cook it myself, my mom uses it more often as an ingredient. She halves the cube, so that it is easier to cook throughout the whole piece. Then she pan-fries it, and flips it once only. Then your sauce can be made separately and poured over the tofu, or to add the tofu back into the sauce. Give it five minute and it's done.

The ones my mom makes end up looking something like this.

Some people can try and deep-fry it and it end up looking like this. Yet, it is pretty hard to achieve technically. You may have to do it a few times to get it right.

I eat tofu for years but recently found out how bad it is for you.
Processed crap that gives you cancer.
