View Full Version : Goldfish lethargy...

1 out of my 7 golds is behaving rather oddly...but is it just its "personality"?

Whilst 6 of then swim about (as fish are wont to do from time to time)... the 7th prefers to just "sit" - or perhaps the nearest word is "hover" under the filter, or down at the bottom of a plant.

The same fish I noticed recently after a water change following a sudden and severe algae problem, was similarly "chilled out" whilst moving them - in the net the other 6 thrashed as fish out of water do, this one just laid in the net and swam nonchalantly out of the net when released.

I've not noticed any signs of bullying from any of the other fish, but I'm wondering whether I should worry about this odd, shy, lethargic behaviour?

seeing as you seem to think all the other fish are ok seems a littlle strange normally its down to water qaulity assume thats been checked water temp too high too low
keep a look out for redness, fuzz or fin deterioration this would be a bacterial cause
if it is not eating it could be internal infection tempitures should be around 68 to 79 although they will live happily at 82 to 84 if you provide plenty of airation as the warmer it gets less oxygen.
Assume it is the same type of gold fish as others.Might just be lazy or chilled out :hihi:

Hmm..yes, it does seem to have the beginnings of tail rot...which reading up on it is usually bacterial..yet all the other (4 commons and 2 comet) are absolutely fine...

It is certainly eating, as soon as there is any activity at the tank lid, it comes out of hiding and up to the top sharpish!

What a week, it's like a vets surgery in my house, one cat on antibiotics and a fish now under treatment too!
