Hi, there's a massive thread on here about indian restaurants. I think Dilshad was mentioned. If you search you should find it. There are lots of recommendations on it. I found it helpful.

I really like Aagrah in Leopold Square, don't understand some of the poor reviews I've seen. In fact we like it so much we had our wedding buffet there.

wish i had come to your wedding. Certianly beats the usual egg sarnies, vol-au-vants and cocktail sausages

I would agree with this, and look at it this way.

Cafe Guru is where you'd go before a night out - truly wonderful food with a good wine selection and decent champagne. It just offers something more than your average 'ruby' house.

Places like Aagrah are where I might head to after a night out to finish the night off after a gallon or more of ale.

Both are good in what they do but in my opinion they are offering different levels of quality and service.

If you want to impress, Cafe Guru is the place to go in my most humble, chicken vindaloo and onion bhaji opinion.

Finally, for decent curry and beer with no trimmings - just ace food and Kingfisher beer (and excellent service) - I'd recommend Seven Spices.

Yeah, I love Moghul rooms too!

Though my favourite indian take-away (Rajput) are opening a restaurant soon, there may be some competition...

Shapla nr the bottom of the moor is very underated. Went there and had a very good chicken shashlic there last week, it was much better than the on i had at Aagrah Leopold sq last month

cafe guru very good food, average service at best so not really worth the prices.

For me ashoka on ecce road is pretty darn good.

Seconded. The thing that put me off them was finding out that they make you pay a deposit of £5 PER HEAD in advance if you book for a group of more than 6 people - and if any of those people can't come (for a good reason, illness in my friend's case) they will not give back that £5 or deduct from the bill!! :o food was fine but will not return for that reason.

Saffron Club at top of West St near Swim Inn is very nice.

I like the Mumtaz on Chesterfield Road (near the retail park). Bonus that its within walking distance of the Sheaf View

Shapla is the place to go!! Me and my partner have been going for years! They serve excellent food, and the service is really good. If your going as a couple, and want a bit of privisy, they have booths for you to sit in. (Go there and you see what i mean) They obviously have plenty of regular tables too! lol.

I would recommend it to anyone!!!

In fact........ im going to go there tonight!! Im in mood for some good grub!!

i like Mumtaz pretty good food, the best on chester field road. But the decour and flat screen telly , do spoil things a bit.

Went to new india garden two nights ago a place i normally have a good meal though i haven't been for about 10 months , had a very average curry . Often have the rupchal when i go there , this time it tasted and looked quite different. it was pretty bland. other dinner s i was were disapointed. Poor sald with the tandorry chicken. the butter chicken was again bland . not as good as butlers.

Another recommendation for the Shapla from me. Excellent service, great food and reasonable prices. Same as Mr X,I've been going years, never been disappointed. Worth booking if you are going on a Friday or weekend after about 730 especially if you want one of the booths.

The new zaras in crookes is excellent - we can highly recommend it and a lot of people i know now rate it as their favourite.

Its run by the people who used to run Ayeshas on eccy rd which was one of our favourites.

The service is unhurried but very poilite and friendly and the pickles that come with the poppadoms are the best ive ever had. Its not the cheapest place but wed much rather go there than anywhere in town.

Got to agree 100%. We generally go to Aagrah but after a night in Crookes ended up in Zara's. The usual 4 pickles are accompanied with an extra 4 with corriander prunes and apple sauce! Food is amazing and they do 20% discount for take away.
