hi all,
i am wanting to shed a little weight and have been told this is the best place to come for advice regarding what type of food to eat, so, has anyone got any ideas on food that i can serve as a family meal but is still filling and healthy..... thanks in advance x
foxforcefive 14-11-2008, 11:08 You can make just about anything healthy if you cook it in a healthy way and add loads of veggies. Depends what kind of food you are into.
I`m on a health kick again at the minute(got a bit slack lately)
Lots of fruit, steamed veg etc.
One of my faves is onions, mushrooms, peppers, chillis, garlic and a small chicken breast diced, throw in a pan with a small amount of water till chickens cooked, add a tin of chopped tomatoes and cook through(about 10 mins to let reduce a bit) serve with rice/wholemeal pitta
Home made vegetable soup.
Carrots, swede, leeks, onions, broccoli, few herbs, plenty of seasoning and some stock. bring to the boil, then simmer till cooked:love:

jojomarmite 15-11-2008, 17:09 stir frys are extremely healthy. Tofu (marinated in garlic, fresh ginger and soy sauce) with soba noodles( or egg noodles or even no noodles!) with lots of veg-onions, sweetcorn, peppers, mushrooms, pak choi etc etc. It tastes delicious. and you dont really need a sauce, just splashes of soy sauce perhaps.
Also scrambled tofu on granary bread is a fantastic breakfast and quite healthy!
fry some onions (not much oil) add a tablespoon of turmeric, black pepper and then scramble the tofu in the pan. cook for five minutes and add spring onions. It is delicious with flat mushrooms too
jojomarmite 15-11-2008, 17:10 also vegetarian chilli (use quorn mince instead of meat, kidney beans etc) and wholegrain rice. basically quorn is very good for you and still filling!
sTaGeWaLkEr 15-11-2008, 17:14 Pea and pesto soup.
Boil some garden peas with a couple of spring onions for about five minutes.
Add the peas and the cooking liqour to the liquidiser with a dollop of green pesto. Liquidise for about ten seconds.
Done.
arkwright 15-11-2008, 18:59 place 4 chicken breasts in a polythene bag along with a packet of taco seasoning.make sure chicken is thoroughly coated, then place in a casserole dish.cover & put in oven at 200degrees for 25mins.when done take out & spread a generous layer of salsa over over it,then put back in oven for 5mins.take out of oven & spoon some sour cream over it.serve it on a bed of white & wild rice.
I made a recipe out of the weight watchers magazine the other week:
Chicken breast, mushrooms fried until brown, transfer to oven dish with some garden peas, mix in a tin of heinz chicken soup and top with sliced potatoes and pop in the oven. Was nice
