Practical Conservation Skills and Vegetation Management

November / December 2008

Cost: £320.00 - whole course
Sessions can be booked individually at £55.00 per session
(n.b. hedge laying will be charged as 2 sessions)

This course is accredited at Level 2 through the Open College Network (3 credits).
The session will run between 9.30am – 4.30pm.
Please note: Participants must complete whole course to be submitted for accreditation

Who should attend?

Local Authority Rangers, Sites Officers, Nature Reserve Officers, Biodiversity Officers, Community Workers, or anybody interested in developing their practical conservation skills

Course Benefits

This is a practical course designed to give participants first hand experience of carrying out some of the most important tasks for managing vegetation. The course includes some classroom learning – where reasons and benefits for different management techniques will be discussed and the theory behind each practical task will be explained. However, much of this course takes place out-doors providing opportunities for learners to develop and practice their practical skills. Health and safety and environmental protection are key elements of this course.

21st November 2008- Tool Maintenance and Health and Safety
27th and 28th November 2008- Hedge Laying (2 days)
5th December 2008- Hedge Planting
11th December 2008-Tree Planting
12th December 2008- Practical Woodland Management
