View Full Version : Wrath of the Lich King midnight openings?
Soooo anyone excited about the release of Wrath of the Lich King tomorrow? :D
Blizzard lists Gamestation on the Moor as the only shop opening at midnight for the release - anyone know if this is true? Have tried to ring them but all the numbers I can find are disconnecting :S
Edit: Found a correct number straight after writing this (isn't that always the way :S ) and they ARE opening at midnight - woohoo!!
the_bloke 12-11-2008, 21:38 Asda at Handsworth are also selling it from midnight. It is easier to get to (for me anyway) and only costs £17. Just don't take that last copy off the shelf before I get there :)
Doh! I never knew we had any openings. Tempted to walk down to Gamestation now :o
Well i eventually got it. No thanks to the pathetic staff (blaming manager), at Gamestation. There must have been 100-150 of us outside in the queue and the manager knew he never had enough copies for us all. He just left us out there for a good 3/4 of an hour then decided to tell us their Chesterfield branch had 30 copies left and we had less than 30 mins to get there. He did mention that he had 40 copies left but they would probably be gone once the people in the store had been dealt with. I was 4th in the queue to get in the store at this point so i asked the manager to do a count up. He waited until there were 3 people left inside then came back out to say they had indeed sold out.
Thats a whole bunch of disgruntled customers.
Luckily as we were walking away i mentioned that Asda were selling them but had no transport..... "Looks like we're off to Asda then". One of the people i was talking to in the queue took me and another guy to Asda in his Jaguar :o
Anyway... I just want to thank my fellow Wower with the Jag. It was much appreciated. It was also nice to speak to a few other gamers from Sheffield.
Funky_Gibbon 13-11-2008, 08:40 I've had my copy on pre-order from Play for a few months. They said they posted it two days ago but it's still not arrived. Hopefully it'll be on my mat when I get home tonight. I'm looking forward to my new Death Knight character.
Beakerzoid 13-11-2008, 17:39 Had to laugh at the radio today (think it was Radio 1) with soundbites from people queuing for the game at midnight. Especial amusement came from the guy who claimed he "has been waiting for this for over 2 years!" Not bad, seeing as the last expansion (Burning Crusade) came out less than 2 years ago, and this pack wasn't announced until months after then!
Personally I'm looking forward to next Tuesday when I get to explore the darkest reaches of Moria in Lotro :)
Funky_Gibbon 13-11-2008, 18:40 Just got home after a loooong day at work and pleased to see the expansion had been delivered. Only problem is that the &$%*£! won't installed! Keeps crashing on 2% of the install :(
Hopefully this workaround fix I've found will solve it.
What started out as a bad story ended up good then Vids :) I was lucky enough to be near the front of the queue. Well when I say that I mean just outside the door (the queue went from the shop counter). I found it really nice to talk to fellow gamers but also very weird hearing people I didn't know talking about wow hehe
ekke_287 17-11-2008, 14:07 So what do you guys think of the expansion now it's been out a couple of days?
Personally I was a little disappointed at the DK transtition back to the orginal faction, but other than that it's looking awesome so far.
I'm enjoying it. It's so nice to have some new content to try out and I really like the format of some of the new quests. GM's have also been pretty helpful when I've reported bugged quests which is great.
Also really like the new instances, especially the really short 25-minute one in Dragonblight (can't remember what it's called)
Captain_Scarlet 17-11-2008, 14:25 Luckily as we were walking away i mentioned that Asda were selling them but had no transport..... "Looks like we're off to Asda then". One of the people i was talking to in the queue took me and another guy to Asda in his Jaguar :o Had I been in the queue I'd had driven to Asda in my Jaguar ;)
Instead, despite ordering Lich King on Game on their pre order thingy it arrived late so I went to Game at Meadowhall (in the Jag) to get a copy for me and a copy for the missus (yes, the virus caught on).
Comments... I never bought LK for the DK, I was not fan of the idea and I still am not. I now understand why DKs are 55, so they can take part in their conversion back to normalhood. I still think it's rubbish to begin a character at that level, that it's a new class rather than a race. Inscription is naf and only serves for making glyphs (so implementing something new to make the new profession vaguely useful).
Northrend is "ok", the land itself is alright though the map is all colourful and child like, loko at Borean Tundra and there's white, red, green, blue, it doesn't homogenic at all. The landscape itself is nicely done though, the seal people's main village in the following region is beautiful and the turtle boats are funny. Being able to quest for a non-beligerent faction of Murlocs is also a good one.
Some regions are rip offs, Zulean is STV, there is the Black Gate from LotR...
Only reason I got LK is for the levelling to be honnest. Not sure it's worth staying in a queue for an hour every evening to get on though.
ekke_287 17-11-2008, 15:57 Is anyone here on Azjol Nerub (server)?
There's a couple of Sheffielders in my guild, but apart from that I've never met any online from these parts.
ekke_287 17-11-2008, 16:01 Ah, what's that like?
I usually end up waiting half hour or so at the moment to get on, but it's not to laggy I guess.
It's not too bad actually. I've not had to queue longer than 3 minutes tho some other have apparently. Have been pretty surprised at the server stability apart from the first day it's been pretty good

Go to bed! ;)
Funky_Gibbon 18-11-2008, 08:02 I had a nightmare getting the thing installed in the first place. The install disk is obviously faulty so I ended up having to download the expansion from Blizzard. It took over 14 hours because of the p2p they use for their downloads.
I haven't even visited Northend yet, I'm just levelling my new Death Knight and loving the Death Grip in the battlegrounds. Death Knights are seriously overpowered though, I took out a 60 elite and 4 58 non-elites at the same time without a problem.
