View Full Version : Big Ask For Sainsbury Feral Caught Last Week
Lily has been spayed, blood tested, chipped, wormed and is in a shed at the moment. She stays in her basket with a blanket over her and never ventures out, only to eat at night.
She is only 8 months old, so the vet says and the dilemma I have is that if I put her with my ferals it will take ages to socialise her. She will just copy them.
What she needs - and I know this is a big request - is for someone to house her in a quiet room indoors, to spend time with her. This will give her chance to get over her trauma of being trapped etc. At the moment, I have two kits which I have been unable to home, one kit going in 3 weeks, and mum and five kits. Mum is not well and needs a lot of attention. I have now run out of space in my house. I don't want to put Lily in the catpen for reasons already stated. The vet said she is not aggressive - none of my females are -just terrified. Humans terrify them.
I would provide food, lit and support! And once Lily has her confidence back I will home her. Lily is all white - she went into the trap straight away which gives a picture of how young and innocent she is! The others take about 4 hours to go in!! Not so innocent!
Please email me if you can help Lily - maggieskinner@blueyonder.co.uk
I'm not expecting a flood of emails - just a special one. Thank you!

have pm you regarding lilly
I'd love to be able to help you out with Lily, but I wouldn't want to make her extra scared by putting her in a house with Molly. I'd put her in with my snuggly cats so she could learn from them, including my hand reared feral girly cat, but the dog does mix with them.
DiamondGirl 12-11-2008, 10:34 I would love ot help but cant with the kitties im fostering chick :(
LitleMermaid 12-11-2008, 10:38 I think my last foster kitten has got a home now magsie,so she will be going very very soon. I've never had a feral before-how will she be with the other cats? Sorry to sound stupid, but I have Ginger who nearly 18 and gets bullied by all and sundry anyway, bless her. I know your post says she isn't agressive, and Ginger rarely comes out of "her" room (my bedroom) anyway, and we have a spare room.
have email you,if you think we can help with lilly, dont hesitate to get in touch,
It's likely that Lily will be happy to be around other cats. In fact it's a general rule that you cannot keep a feral cat without other cats for company as it risks their mental health in a really fundamental way.
I have a hand reared feral cat and when I took her on it was on the understanding that I would always need to have at least one other cat for her to have around her.
The really important thing with a feral cat that we're trying to bring around from being truly feral to starting to trust and interact with humans is for them not to be only around other feral cats, because they all reinforce each others' behaviours and don't develop towards being friendly and less scared. However, with some house cats who can show them a positive way to behave (and that fusses and snuggles are enjoyable) then they usually start to trust and interact much faster and so get to be happier furries much sooner than they would otherwise.
LitleMermaid 12-11-2008, 10:59 Ahh fantastic, thanks meds:)
Just checking, have to be really careful with Ginger these days, like I say she is perfectly happy living in our bedroom, snuggling in bed with us but keeping herself entertained for the main part of the day.
magsie, you know where I am;)
Thanks for putting it in a nutshell Medusa, your experience is brill. I think I have enough offers. Saw her today and she's strokable. She just needs a chance to interact without being stressed. Am leaving her where she is until Monday cos I want all my cats to settle over the weekend. Got a new feral today, Rosie, and on the way home noticed her eye was really poorly. Took her straight to vet who put her on long lasting antibiotics. Blimey, hadn't even got her home!! She's asleep in conservatory now! I am hoping that Goonie will take Kitty, the nearly latest addition who is being rehomed in about 3 weeks. Kitty just wants company, just wants to chill out on knees and as I don't sit down in the day other than to type this is difficult!! She clings to me even when I'm walking around! Thank you everyone! x x
MARY POPPINS 12-11-2008, 18:05 Magsie what would they do without you, dont know if you're interested but I've got alittle bag of cat litter, and a couple of trays and a cat carrier, and if anybody wants it a plastic dog bed
Me please!! Would love them all if I could have them. Where do you live Mary xx
MARY POPPINS 13-11-2008, 08:22 have sent you a pm
Rainrescue 13-11-2008, 09:06 sorry Magsie - is this girl feral?
If so, she can go out with mine here - as long as she isn't agressive with other cats - which it doesn't sound as though she is
let me know
loobylou-lou 11-01-2009, 09:14 Hi Magsie
Could you give us an update on Lily, how is she getting on. Did you get her from Sainsburys on Archer Road, as I have noticed a cat hanging around there.
Hi Looby, Lily is living with Rainrescue! Rain is brilliant. All my ferals are really doing well. Susie the white one and Tessa the tab were in the shed and catpen at the bottom of the garden but now come into the house for feeding and go back to the shed to sleep. They have the heater on 24/7 and microwave heat pads! Bobby is Tessa's kit. Rosie is just a cat who lived with the ferals at Furry Friends and I hadn't the heart to split them. So each morning Bobbie rounds up all the 6 female adults and off they go for the day into next door's garden where their other mates live!
I have been told there is a black cat at Sainsbo's so have been feeding it each day. I haven't seen it, very difficult to see all black cats in the undergrowth, but as soon as I can find a temp place for it I will trap it. At the moment I am full up at home. But what I don't want to do, and won't do, is trap it, getting it neutered and then return it to site. With love and attention all feral cats come round. The problem is that most people do not have the space nor the time to do this. Will you email me Looby to tell me where and what time you have seen the cat. This will make trapping easier love, thanks x
Sorry, Looby, forgot to say that yes Lily was trapped at Sainsbo's Archer Road. Her two younger sisters are now living at Stocksbridge, lovely home, and I have her mum Susie who was again pregnant when she was spayed. That's 3 lots of kits in a few months!! She is now fat as a football and happy x
