I have done both of these things before butcan't remember how to do it now!

I want to delete the list of recent documents so nothing shows (without deleting the actual files) and sort it so all the information in the address bar and in the search bar (In say google for example) doesn't show up. So when you type in a letter it doesn't guess what you are looking for and bring up a list of previous searches and addresses.

Does that make sense?

It does to me lol!!

Thank you!

Are you using Internet Explorer? If you go into Tools, and then Internet Options, you can choose to delete the last 'x' number of pages.

I think that's what you want to do, although I'm sure someone a little more up on computers will be able to advise further... :)

Right-click Start Menu> Properties>Customize>Clear to clear the recently viewed documents.

To delete history, in IE just go Tools> Internet Options> Clear History

In Firefox just to to the settings and clear the history using the tab there.

That doesn't work. It clears the list of recently used programmes on the start menu but does not clear the recent documents list.

To delete history, in IE just go Tools> Internet Options> Clear History

In Firefox just to to the settings and clear the history using the tab there.

I can clear the history, infact it is set to clear every time I log off. This does clear the address bar yes.

Does anyone know how to clear the list of previous searches in Google? Again, I have done this before but can't remember how to do that or the recent documents either.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

You could try TweakUI (a FREE MS product) from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx - This is the XP version, if you have Win 98 it's on the install CD (CD:\win98\tools\reskit\powertoy\) and right click the file called "tweakui.ini' and select the "Install" option.

You shoud then be able to alter various aspects of the Windows OS;).

Should've read further down in Google:rolleyes:.

All Windows versions of TweakUI are available from http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui.

Windows XP?

Try:

From http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/671
You can clear this list by right-clicking the Start button, choosing "Properties", then clicking "Customize". Now click the "Advanced" tab and click "Clear List". Zap! The files are gone. While you're there, you can also remove "My Recent Documents" from the Start menu—just clear the checkbox for "List My Most Recently Opened Documents"

Which was taken from http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/671 and is for the Recent Documents issue.

Turning off auto complete in IE will stop the address bar completeing addresses for you (I think) though I have no idea how to acheive this:(.

Hope this is of some use.

Ta!! I sorted the auto complete out so that's sorted the Google issue. Just the recent documents one to sort.

Many thanks!

Since you've done it before, I presume these instructions are clear to you.

This only works on windows 95,98, ME and (2000???)
using explorer navigate to c:\windows\recent and delete all the files

For the other versions of windows

navigate to c:\Documents and Settings\<your windows logon username>\recent and delete the files.

At your own risk!!!
