Is it a really weird chlorine-ish type of smell? Actually it doesn't smell much like chlorine at all, but thats the closest thing I can think of. I walk up that way on my way to work in the mornings and it makes me feel a bit sick actually, it's one of those smells that really sticks in the back of your throat. I must wrinkle up my nose or something when I walk past Las Iguanas because when the workmen were there recently redoing the paving, one of them shouted over to me, 'If the wind changes, you'll be stuck like that' :P

It's horrible isn't it! i think that it smells a bit like gas but worse. I walked past it the other day and there were actually people sat out on the pavement, the poor sods

I live there. I walk past Iguanas every morning, often eat there and the other day sat outside for a couple of hours having a few beers.
I haven't smelt anything at all and have heard no-one else comment on a smell either.
So to answer your question - yes your boyfriend is right it is just you.

I smell it nearly every day and think it is from Las Iguanas and it is a very hard smell to explain. The closest thing I can think of is if you mop a very dirty floor with water with bleach in it and then leave it for about a week, it smells like that.
If I remember correctly there are some air vent/fan things just above Las Iguanas, I think it comes from there.

I know exactly the smell you mean!! I used to walk through West One several times a day and the smell is absolutely disgusting :gag:. I used to hold my breath sometimes because it made me feel sick. It's not like anything else I've ever smelt before but adlinds is quite close in describing it. Someone told me it was something to do with the air conditioning, but I don't know if that's true. It's definitely something to do with air vents/fans above Las Iguanas though.

I've always been amazed that Las Iguanas hasn't tried drastic measures to get rid of it, or maybe they have & failed!

Other friends of mine have smelt it too so it's not just you pinkhat. It's really odd that some people can't smell it... maybe only women can smell it?! Are you a man whelk?

I'm a man and I can smell it so there goes that theory.
I think the smell is sometimes there and sometimes not. Some days when I go down for a paper I can't smell it, other times it makes me want to gip. :gag:

Is it just around Las Iguanas, or is it further down towards the buildings too?
I live there and haven't sniffed anything yet, other than a dodgy pong in the lettings office lol! Mind you, I only go as far as Budgens, so I shall have to venture a little further and smell for myself.

I've only ever smelt it around Las Iguanas on the side nearest to Prego. Never smelt anywhere else.

The people who live there have become immune and used to it, but there definately IS a smell. I smell it every time I go past.

Another horrid smell that nearly makes me keel over and throw my rops up every time I walk past, is that kebab place on the corner (opposite Bar S1), i forget it's name.

It's bleeding awful - AND PEOPLE BUY FOOD FROM THERE :gag:

It's the whiff of the bovine excrement produced by estate agents when they try to sell these Versatile Integrated Urban Lifestyle Experiences to the gullible punters.

I hear that the council's environmental protection staff are investigating Iguanas and also Antibos regarding offensive smells. I guess it's from their kitchen vents. The investigation is also having an effect on the other food units at West One.

Er, rrrrright... not quite sure what that means, as I'm 36 and my family and I have a very nice house in a lovely part of the city, thanks very much.

And the last place I'd want to live is West One or anywhere like it. They'll be pulling them down in 20 years' time, just like they are now with Norfolk Park.

I was merely commenting on how, after you've been through the house-moving process a few times, you know estate-agent-speak backwards and know exactly the kind of tricks they use to 'talk up' a property or area.

Mod. Note

Now then, keep the abuse for PM land.

Thanks,

To Pinkhat:

Not many other people can smell it so maybe it's you! There must be a smell truth ray in the vicinty which graciously shines its light on you when you go past the holy kebab house. Don't turn away from this enlightenment, try a deodorant, I've heard mum is good for girls and old spice a tasty scent for men.

Yours humbly

Know the smell you mean - I'm pretty sure it's from Las Iguanas vents. Smells like old cooking oil to me. Must be where all the taste goes from their incredibly bland food...
