View Full Version : Paintballing - have you done it?
Laura2005 26-05-2005, 06:22 Where do you go to paintball? which arena do u think is best?
we recently went to nottingham one (skirmish) for my 21st birthday, it was an ace experience, i had never been before and they were really friendly to us, and the marshall was YUMMY!!
what have your experiences been?
fnkysknky 26-05-2005, 06:47 Went to Bawtry Paintball Fields for a stag party - was an excellent day out, lots of different arenas ranging from a Vietnamese village to a large treetop fortress. Spent a load of money on extra ammo, paint grenades etc. but well worth it. They have a guy dressed in a Predator suit that joins a random game in the day too - he's there to shoot everyone and has a top of the range automatic paintball marker - best not to get shot by him :)
They take the safety side seriously and if you fire where or when you shouldn't or remove your face mask then you have to sit out the next game - makes people think twice about ******* around.
It's the only one I've been to but speaking to mates who've been to a few it's their pick of the bunch.

RunningFree 26-05-2005, 07:33 make sure you take alot of money with you , if you want to have a good time without having to ration how many paintballs you can use per game. We played last year and you can expect to spend over £100 while you are there on the entry and n paintballs. We used about 300 per game and that was taking it easy. If I was to go again i would consider buying some off the net. they shouldn't spot you bringing your own at the paintball centre.
Have a good time.
Ousetunes 26-05-2005, 07:49 Gosh I absolutely hated it. I went to one near Strines Reservoir on a scorching hot day for a friend's birthday.
I must confess I'd spent the previous night getting wrecked in Barnsley city centre and leaving the contents of my stomach - including fish, chips and mushy peas (I swear the emitted mushy peas glowed) - near some roundabout on the way back to Sheffy. I therefore had a real humdinger of a hangover and was so dehydrated I could have drunk the entire volume of that reservoir!
But even if I'd had a clear head, I still would not have enjoyed it. It reminded me of old school trips, Outward Bound Centres and all the (fake) cameradarie that supposedly goes with it.
And I was useless at it, probably getting hit more than the rest of the crowd put together. And it hurt, truly hurt and the bruises were - as Morrissey said in The Headmaster Ritual 'bigger than dinner plates'.
Infact, I'm not enjoying reminding myself just how much I disliked it.
Laura2005 26-05-2005, 08:33 i checked out the bawtry one, but the skirmish was much better value for money. we will definately be going back there, even if its only for the eye candy lol
Strines was fantastic, what a great day....get drunk afterwards!!!

I've been a few times, at a number around the country...Skirmish in Nottingham is definitely the best site I've played on, really nice staff, interesting courses and free tea and coffee (at least they used to anyway).
Delta Force near Wakefield is a good day out. We spent about £40 each, without being too tight or trigger happy. Free tea and coffee all day as well.
Link here (http://www.paintballgames.co.uk/index.htm)
i've been to about 5 different sites, or maybe 6, they all provide free tea and coffee.
The strines one is as good as any other i've been too. The skirmish ones are overpriced and the goBallistic site in North Yorkshire (or at least 1 of them) is rubbish as the entire thing is on a really steep hill.
I went to Strines a couples of years ago and thought it was Brilliant, really gets the adrenaline going! A couple of tips though: if you can try to get shot in the face, it sounds crazy but a shot to the face mask is the most painless spot. After the end of the last game don't waste all your bullets on a tree as they let us have a "free for all" until our bullets ran out, needless to say i was the first one back. Bugga :)

my advice would be to use all your paint usefully before the free for all, as that is a complete waste of time and money.
Guderian 04-06-2005, 17:17 Done Strines. Proper dull, and stings like buggery.
oasismark 04-06-2005, 19:53 "Paintballing - have you done it?"
Yes, and it hurts like hell !!!!!
I remember getting home in the bath and counting 18 bruises.
Anyone who says it doesn't hurt is lying, it kills.
and it costs a lot in paintballs once you get there.
But i liked it as a one off :D

couldn't agree more.
i went to strines and there was actually a prize for biggest bruise!
i was hit right on the head and it was sore for about a week!
Laura2005 06-06-2005, 10:52 oh u big wimps!!! lol
Internetowl 08-06-2005, 16:04 you should try airball as well - realistic weapons...and a lot cheaper...

AirSOFT! :) The "guns" fire 6mm plastic balls, otherwise known as "BB's". These BBs are NOT made from metal, and they hurt a helluva lot less than a paintball.
The "guns" are actually plastic and metal models of real military weaponry (I myself have an AK47 at the moment), which is why I'd try airsofting sooner rather than later, as the latest proposal from the government to stop scummers and chavs buying cheap and nasty BB guns and pretending to be "50 Bob" and "M&M" down the shops is bound to stop people like me from participating in organised, safe and LEGAL use of airsoft models....

Laura2005 09-06-2005, 08:23 yea our friends go do the airsoft because they are too wimpy to play the big boys game! lol
dont see the point tbh
gremlin_mick 09-06-2005, 20:16 So where do you go paintballing then Laura?
Laura2005 10-06-2005, 09:44 i have only been the once but i loved it!!! we went to the skirmish site, i did some research before hand on the other sites, but cost effectiveness took over and skirmish won the vote, altho the idea of the predator would have been cool.

So you haven't actually tried airsoft then?
Laura2005 10-06-2005, 09:48 nup thats right, but if it doesnt leave the bruises whats the point lol

I fancy giving it a go at Strines sometime. Out of interest, how do you know when people have been hit as there's no paint?
Laura2005 10-06-2005, 10:03 that was the other thing that put me off - it relies on the players being honest enough to admit it.

When you've got an fully automatic airsoft gun capable of firing 750 BB's a minute, firing at 328 fps, you KNOW you've been hit!! You DO have to rely on the honesty of the other players, and the eyesite of the marshalls, although thats not easy when you've got players fully camoflagued up and hiding in a bush! :)
It doesn't hurt like a paintball, but it stings like a bugger!!
Unfortunately, we've stopped doing airsoft up at Strines for the time being. The owners of the site are doing a LOT of development on the site (new buildings, new safe zone, new offices), and as such, the larger fields more suited to airsoft are out of commission at the moment.
Paintball is still going strong though, as the fields dont need to be as big...
are you one of the martials then? I played about 3 weeks ago.
benclements2 14-06-2005, 16:46 I went to that place near strines a couple of years ago. Got shot point blank in the hand, shot straight in the face, got shot elsewhere but dont want to dwell on that thought for too long. Amazing day, expensive but well worth it.
Laura2005 15-06-2005, 08:31 i got hit in the hand, i got one in the head (now that hurts). I got shot in the face 3times, ate paint twice, and got a split lip - IT WAS FANTASTIC!!
