My son has been trying to burn a CD all night without success...eventually I have got round to trying to help him but I cannot fathom the problem either...I have tried using Nero as well as Windows Media Player and both programs say there is no CD in the drive but there is...I have tried several blank CD's with same error message ...
Any ideas
its been a while since i used nero but one thing which used to cause problems was that you had to be logged in as an administrator to burn CDs...

I had exactly the same problem a while back.
No matter which software I tried, I got the same message "No CDR/W in drive" etc.
Bought a new CDRW and all was well.
You could try cleaning the lens? This is what I am going to try whilst I have the old CDRW in pieces;).
FTR. Mine was a cheapo Lite-On drive.

Cheapo LiteOn?
LiteOn probably one of the best makes for Writers (CD/DVD) you can get.
One thing to make sure is that you have selected the appropriate drive in Nero, a la:

Thanks but even dispite cleaning, being logged on as an administrator and checking correct drive selected I still get the same error message....
Any other ideas...??? Before I invest in a new unit!!

I know their rep., which is why I bought it. Mine was brand spanking new and it died within a year. I will never buy one again.
My new Asus is nice though;) - and it cost me less than the LiteOn drive did..
Sheish - sorry, can't help any further I'm afraid. Except that you should try a RW disk (if you have a spare one) as my LiteOn drive would still write to CDRW during it's death throws:(.

Are they all the same brand of discs?

Do you have another PC you could try it in?
Or a different IDE/SCSI cable?
Just thoughts....;).
does it read cd's at all?
does the computer have any virtual cd drive software on it, like Daemon Tools, Alcohol or Nero Image Drive?
does the machine have more than one cd drive?
Hi
I have tried a differant brand with no problems....it was still a CDR as well...
Must be a dodgy batch of CDR's .... Thanks for all your help.
