Does anyone know about ROD ROLLING and also what this work would have entailed during the steel industry in 19th / early 20th century Sheffield?

Also, we have been told that our great-great-grandad was in at the very early days of ARC-WELDING in Sheffield - does anyone know about this?

We imagine that this was also during late 19th early 20th century. Apparently there were heaps of accidents, including workers being blinded by the early ARC-WELDING apparatus. Was it invented in Sheffield? - (like so many things!)
