Hi,
I wondered if any of you will be around on the manor allotments this week ? I have my map of available allotments but cant get on to have a look round because Bob at the Allotments office is on a course this week.
Im keen to get on asap to start clearing and preparing for spring (plus using up some of jobi wan's manure!).
If anyone can let me on for a quick look round that would be great .

Hiya
Can I tag along to see what the place is like. Just posted in the other thread as im looking to get my own.
Hi hitch,
Iv not had any joy getting on the site yet! Apparently the plots in use are different to the ones the allotment office says are available so the only way to find out whats free is to go up there and have a look.
Hopefully we will be up there soon, maybe see you there.
By the way, Im 32 and my partner Emma is 25 so you wont be the only young(ish) one up there!

lol, just had an email back from the allotment people and Im on the list, yay :) so not sure how long it will take. And reading some other posts, the whole number thing and maps dont go together, it seems really random :)
And 28 and 25 is young :) forget the ish lol,.......im justin...
This actually seems rather daunting as well ive never really done anything like this ever....so im doing a bit of googling to see whats what.....how much exp have you got?
Exp - toms and sweetpeas have done well this year, not much else!
We are hoping to take over someones plot up at Highclife that is already well established and taking one at the Manor to do from scratch.
Are you taking one up at the Manor?

I think its at manor............ so that makes 2 for you, thats a lot of work :) ..... why 2?
We had decided to take one at the manor before we found out about the other allotment at Highcliffe.
The ground at Highcliffe is very clayey and not suitable for growing all of the veg we'd like to but is great for the fruit trees on the plot. We are hoping the soil at the manor will be more suitable for our veg.
We have 3 kids that are keen to get started plus my parents are coming to help us with the clearing and preparing, so there are plently of us to work both allotments.

Good Luck :) ..... from what ive read the ground at the manor seems to be ok, it seems people are having a fair bit of success there. Although depending on which one you get, you might be entering sheffield or entering africa lol....
Iv always fancied a safari

lol, you would :)
Ive decided to get myself 2 books, ......"The allotment book" by Andi Clevely and "Grow your own veg" by Carol Klein, both seem really good, and gives a bit of an insight........but how complicated is an allotment lol
If I had answered you this morning I would have said "cant be that bad" but having seen our allotment at Highcliffe today I have changed my mind! :o
It has some great fruit trees and bushes but you can only access them via a large pile of manure, waist high weeds and dead rats!!!
Im now on the hunt for cardboard for mulching
