I'm wondering if anyone knows where I might get in touch with Mick Baggaley. He used to live on Bramall Lane, opposite the football ground during the 1950's. He lived there with his Mum, Dad, Grandma and a younger brother. We used to sit in their front bedroom window, which was just right to see the cricket pitch and watch the test matches. His Dad worked for Richdales Brewery, so we had an endless supply of pop to drink during those long hot Summer afternoons. I've not seen or heard of Mick since we left school. Hope one of you may be able to help!

The Baggaley family moved from Bramall Lane to Ecclesall Road in the early 1960's. I believe that Mr Baggaley went to work for Wards Brewery.

Hector , do you know any more about what happened to the Baggaleys after they moved to Ecclesall Road, particularly Mick? I'd love to know where he went to work and what's happened to him.

I'm not sure what his brother was called, it definitely wasn't Derek. It might have been David though.

I know for certain that his brother was called David.
Mick went to a teacher training college in Lincolnshire - Kesteven rings a bell.

Thanks for that Hector, do you know any more about the Baggaleys? I went to school with Mick, both at Nether Edge and Sharrow Lane. Any news at all would be welcome.

I remember Mick Baggaley at Nether Edge, didn't see him again until about 1982. We were looking to upgrade the fume extraction equipment on one of the 100 ton electric arc steel melting furnaces. This involved modifications to the existing extractor fan. I was most surprised when the fan manufacturer's technical engineer who came to discuss the project with me was Mick.

I haven't seen him since.

Manaman,
Was it in Sheffield that you saw Mike? Was the Company that he worked for a Sheffield firm?
I too was at Nether Edge with Mike and lived quite close to Bramall Lane where he lived. Perhaps we know each other?

Regards, Thorpy.

Hi Thorpy,
Yes it was in Sheffield that I saw Mike. He was working for the Holset Coupling Division of Peabody Holmes. Holset specialised in large high torque and high speed couplings. They were taken over; first by Holmes, who were manufacturers of very large industrial fans and dust extraction equipment; and they in turn were taken over by Peabody an American process plant conglomerate. The company was based at Huddersfield at that time, but I can't remember where Mike said he lived, so can't help you there.
Yes I know you went to Nether Edge. I am on the 1954 panoramic photo of the school as you are. I was in the year below you.

Hi Manaman,
Thanks for the information, I've also had a fair bit of news from Hector re. the Baggaley family, but no recent knowledge of Mick's whereabouts. Something may turn up.
I've been following the thread about old Sheffield Grammar schools and seen your comments on there. A good old school on the whole I think!
Did you go to the re-union in Sheffield this last Summer?

Hi Thorpy,
I thought that the school gave an excellent education to those that wished to access it, whilst at the same time instilling; discipine, the work ethic and teamwork. Essential requirements for surviving successfully in the big wide world.
No I did not go to the re-union this last Summer. I wasn't aware of it.

Hello Hector. Just a jog to check that you got my PM. I had to try twice as after I had sent my reply I was told that I wasn't logged on, which of course I was!
