View Full Version : Which instant coffee is best?
I know this depends on taste, but I've started drinking Nescafe Blend 37. In my opinion it tastes more like real coffee compared to the other instant brands. What do you prefer? Got any tips?
Geoff

I like Kenco (Really Rich, I think - it's the one with the blue lable).
I prefere Kenko Really Smooth. Gold Blend is also nice.
I drink all the ones mentioned so far (Kenco, Gold Blend, Blend 37) but if I want to really treat myself I go for 'Alta Rica'. (Can't remember who makes it - probably Nestle)
Nomme
i dont like coffee at all
i prefer tea :)
but i like Coffee Sweets :?: :?:
I prefer tea, but if there's no tea bags I'll have owt so long as it's got about 3 sugars in it (can't drink bitter coffee!)
Oh, and coffee flavoured chocs get left at the bottom of the box!
I can't stand 'coffee-flavoured" things eg. Chocloates, etc.
However, my latest indulgance is chololate coated coffee beans - they are small but perfectly formed. Yum. Anyone know if they sell these scrummy things in Pollards?

I am not fussy I love most coffee and plenty of it.

I love them! It's funny because all the coffee Roses seem to get left, but they're my favourite.
Anyone know how 'fair' Fairtrade branded stuff is? I drink very little coffee but tend to get Fairtrade coffee when I do. I have to admit I wasn't so keen on the flavour of it when I first bought it but have kind of got used to it's extra bitterness over other brands.
I am not so sure. I was in a Supermarket once and they had a sign up saying "Fair Trade Bananas" I asked which ones were the Fair Trade ones and was told that all the Bananas they have are Fair Trade. I found this hard to believe because some of these were Chiquita Bananas which have never been Fair Trade. These originate from slave farms apparently.
Happy_Guy 02-07-2005, 11:15 I drink Cafe Driect It's fair trade coffe. it's tastes good and the growers get a fair amount for it so it's good. Try some and see if you like it you can also get it as fresh coffee and coffee beans. It's fair trade coffee so you'll be helping the gorwer because he gets a fair price for it.
Bloomdido 02-07-2005, 12:03 Kenco Cafe Noir. It's all I will drink now. Simply the best and I have tried a few.
Greybeard 02-07-2005, 12:11 Kenco Purely Colombian - was trying a different coffee every week for a while and didn't get futher than this.
Carl_Malibu 02-07-2005, 12:23 nescafe helps to kill babies
kenco tastes something like a blend of washing up liquid and gravel
I must say I drink douwe egberts, which is probably as evil as the rest, but the good ol' parents don't often buy cafe direct(which I would say is my preference)
failing the instant thing, pollards do nice real coffee to buy (ground or in beans)
on the rare occasion I have coffee I prefer Carte Noir.

For an instant, Blend 37 is nice - I also like Alta Rica, although it's not cheap :)
I drink Cafe Direct, but I like my coffe strong enough to stand a spoon up in, so I tend to go through those small jars pretty quickly.
Having tried most of the brands, I like Douw Egberts' Continental Gold the best, followed by Kenco Purely Columbian.
ryanborden 06-07-2005, 00:16 I do like Gold Blend
I recall reading a taste test in a blokey mag where Camp came top. Surely not? Has anyone tasted Camp and can confirm my suspicions that there was more than a pinch of irony to the article?
karenjane39 06-07-2005, 07:41 I drink Clipper Organic Decaffeinated which is also Fairtrade.
You have to be careful with some decaff coffee as the decaffeination process uses toxic chemicals so if you care about that sort of thing read the label. :)
BoppinBruce 06-07-2005, 10:23 Go for Busters coffee. Produced by people with learning difficulties, being paid market prices to grind and bag, fair trade coffee. A social firm. They produce just off Mowbray Street. Available at outlets in Sheffield.
Local company, helping people with disabilities into work, and CHEAP.
How could you ever think of buying elsewhere?
Whoops, does this close the thread?

A telephone number would be nice Bruce ;)
Ant,
I tried Camp coffee once, under duress, and I thought it vile. It is more like sauce than coffee.

Sure that's not an unconcious association ?.....because it's sold in a sauce bottle ? :D
I remember having it as a youngster, - with evaporated milk :gag:
Thought so. I'll give it a miss.
bigsteve 07-07-2005, 19:34 never mind the p.c stuff you cant beat good old nescafe with 2 sugars and milk for a tasty brew.

Or outlets? Anything would be better than the instant stuff that I have at the moment (even the expensive brands mentioned above) - dunno what it is about them but all brands have started tasting metallic over the last few weeks.
Did wonder if it was the water and we'd another Camelford on our hands - for those of you who can remember that - but think it's either the coffee or me.
Can't imagine which it could be
