Are you using Media Player 11 on your PC?

You set up media sharing (in WMP11 under Library/Media Sharing), you should then be able to play anything in your PCs media library on your 360.

Alternatively, just use a usb memory stick.

Not much use if like me, you have about a terabyte of music/video files on your PC... :hihi:

tversity doesnt give the windowmedia player option, it goes as far as wmp 9 i think, it plays most xvids fine but when i convert .mkv files to mpg4 it freezes at times, the conversion is fine or it wouldnt play at all. or do you have any suggestions, whats window media centre like? never tried it cos i heard it was crap.

WMP11 has the same capability as TVersity.

WMP11 will share any of the files in it's media library with the Xbox360 or any other compatible media extender it finds on your network. With .MP4 you might have do a registry tweak before WMP will recognise it as a shareable media file.

Are you using a wireless network?

Wireless might not be fast enough for MKV/MP4, even with a very strong signal, you might only get a transfer rate of around 1.5 to 2 megabytes/second, which is probably why you are getting the freezes, I'm guessing that normal AVIs play fine?

Sounds like the network is the problem, not the software.

The solution would be a LAN cable, or large external USB drive for the 360.
